Being that LA is SoCal, and that SoCal's greatest music fest, who here is going? PS. As a verteran of Glastonbury, the Reading Festival, Phoenix, V, and even the short lived Slough Festival , Coachella is probably the best music fest around. The locals complain about the heat, but compare that to 3 days in cold ankle deep mud, where one slip and u become a human mud pie with no shower in site, and its a walk in the proverbial park!
Is that the Virgin Festival, or the Leeds leg of the Reading Fest? Roundhay Park? Ever been to Leed's Queens Hall?
Its the Leeds leg of the Reading festival. Line-up is a bit meh but the wife wanted to go and she's going to see the mighty Maiden with me. Never been to Leed's Queens Hall? Are festivals held there? I went to V96 and I think that was in Leeds
I saw ACDC, Rainbow and Saxon at separate shows at Leed's Queens Hall all around 1980 when I was at school, Christ that's 26 years ago! Saw Maiden a few years later at Hammersmith Odeon! The Queen's Hall was famous for that all day punk fest as well, loads of Oi bands and stuff! It was all on one level so hard to see, and also horribly sweaty and packed. Good times.
Parka - You off to see Maiden?? Damn cool. A long time fav band of mine!! Never seen 'em but. Let us know how the show goes!!
It will depend on the new album, as thats what they'll primarily play, and hopefully get rid of that awful opener.
Deja vu . . . Rainbow, Saxon and Motorhead at the Queens Hall, Leeds . . . I gotta dig out the programmes but 1980 sounds on the money! Highlight of the Saxon gig for this 13 year old schoolboy was the guy slipping his bird one from the back on the edge of the pit I remember the punk festival . . . 'Futurama' . . I should have the flyer for that archived away too (I keep all sorts of crap!) The Queens Hall was levelled about 12 years ago and is currently a car park Where did you live & go to school? I'm betting you bought your school kegs (sta pres) from 'Class Fashions' under the viaduct . . right?
Wow Andy, nice one remembering FUTURAMA! I actually lived in York and had to catch a train to Leeds for the shows. The station was really close to the Queen's Hall. So, its gone, and replaced by a parking lot? It wasn't a great venue, but held some memories. Sounds like u r a similar age to me, and from the same part part of the world. We seem to have a fair amount of Brit representation on the boards.
Would be if I was going that day I got the sat and sun tickets because the weekend ones were sold out. Its not worth the £120 for the one day extra
If you are going try to catch The Duke Spirit. I bought of their 7" a while ago and I think they might be worth seeing live. They sound like a modern Velvet Underground.
Satan Laughs As You Eternally Rot Them boys are sick! $10-15K in hotel damages in the BA, partying with them Metallica and Exodus way back in the day. Good times, good times. . .
Its really for the missus, theres not much on there that I want to see. Bands i'm looking forward too: Gogol Bordello Dizzee Rascal (who I won't get to see) Yeay Yeah Yeahs Be Your Own Pet Wolfmother Muse
Wolfmother will also be at COachella - OH YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! Muse always rule live as well. I'd love to see Slayer as well, but I don't think I could handle the audience at an Ozfest type thing. Knewnan, Duke SPirit are on my list as are: Sigor Ros, My Morning Jacket, Animal Collective (not sure, but I hear raves about these guys), She Wants Revenge, Imogen Heap, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Art Brut, The Dears, Depeche Mode, The Rakes, Daft Punk, FF, Ladytron, Walkmen, Living Things, Wolfmother, Nine Black Alps, Rob Dickinson, Tool, Madonna, Bloc Party, Matisyahu, Mogwai, Coheed and Cambria, Editors, The Magic Numbers, Stellastar, Youth Group and Giant Drag Just checked the forecast and it says sunny and temps between 88 and 91. Aweseome...way better than rain or mud (Glasto 97) or scorcher temps of 108 (atleast 2 prior Coachella's). I'll hopefully post some photos next week!
