Nah, that's cool! Maybe we should pick this up in the "Japan Toys" forum though so we don't stray too far from Cloverfield here. In the meantime, I'm looking up your reference out of interest. EDIT: I see what you mean, I think. Those eyes!
I agree- definitely great Lovecraftian beasts in HB, and GDT will have more of the same (a lot more, according to reports) in HB2. That's a case of a director who has great, respectful vision for and working knowledge of creature FX partnering with a great effects house (Spectral Motion)- Guillermo's awesome in that respect, and I hope he gets to do his long-promised At The Mountains of Madness film someday, because he has what it takes to do Lovecraft cinematic justice. Actually, Miles Teves did an awesome charcoal take on Cthulhu back in the 80's- my fave interpretation by far. If only Abrams would bring Miles on board...if I can find that pic, I'll post it.... As for the HPLHS Call of Cthulhu movie you referenced, xoco (http://www.cthulhulives.org/cocmovie/), all I can say is, if you're a Lovecraft fan, buy it- support these people! I picked it up last year, and it's great- money well spent! They did an amazing little movie on a shoestring budget, that manages to be, hands-down, the most faithful HPL adaptation out there. Sorry for taking this pretty far out from Cloverfield....
Cool, thank you for the recommendation They have it for sale at Amoeba here in SF ... I'll pick it up soon. Agreed about GDT ... what a truly great director!
maybe the ppl in the movie think the tentacles of the cthulhu looks like a lions mane??? Man I just started reading this thread, I can't wait for this movie to come out!
They are making an American-ized version of "The Host" (Korean giant river parasite movie). Maybe it is for that?
Yes they are but this has nothing to do with it from another site " It's not the remake of THE HOST. I heard from the mouth of a production exec at Universal that they're still working on the script for that remake, which will likely take place in the pacific northwest and involve a nuclear reactor that falls into a river and creates a monster out of a regular creature."
Apparently those Ethan Haas sites don't have anything to do with the movie, and thats where all the Cthulhu stuff came from. Also I've heard that Paramount doesn't have the rights to Godzilla so thats probably out too. I'm betting on an original monster, and I can't wait.
Their is also Star Trek rumors surrounding JJ Abrams. Those Nathan Haas site may have something to do with it.
Yeah, if you've seen The Host (and if you haven't, you should) it doesn't seem anything like what this trailer suggests - unless they've decided to totally screw it up, that is. I'd thae the denials on the Haas sites with a grain of salt- that's part of the whole viral marketing thing, methinks.
Film Theat Investigates: http://www.filmthreat.com/index.php?sec ... es&Id=1990 Gotta' admit----the roar of that thing is unsettling.
I'll throw my two cents worth in and say I'm sure I'm hearing: Girl: "What is it? Is it coming this way?" Guy: "I saw it!! It's alive! It's huge!"
Takes place in the Northwest...Nuclear Reactor falls into a river...something mutates...sounds like a lion...OMG! It's a giant sea lion
I hear the girl ask "What is it, is it coming this way?" And the guy "I saw it, its a lion, its huge!" Obviously whatever it is, it is alive
I was playin' with the Ethan Haas Was Right site. The blue star at the upper left of the page is a mail link to van@ethanhaaswasright.com. Naturally I sent 'em an email, and a few minutes later, got this response. Some of the characters got garbled (or maybe that's intentional?) ... I'm not going to edit/correct the garbled text: "I think I’m safe, for now. Wherever I go it isn’t long before they find me. It seems The Mezin are connected to every aspect of humanity, from culture and religion to our most advanced technology I have to be more careful contacting all of you. When I began I thought I could safely speak about his writings and perhaps save us all... but now it seems I will have to find a more subtle way to share his visions. If this is the first message you have received from me do not give up hope! There are others that have gone before you, the way has been found, you only need to search and you will find the answers you seek. We will all have a role to play. We are getting stronger, our voices will be heard! I have more of Haas’s writings, once I find a secure way to transmit them I will leave you clues to find them. The more I read the more I realize Haas was right………" Hah, I guess I fell for the hype.
this might be a stretch but... When I first saw The Village I thought the whole first half felt very Lovecraft. Lovecraft is the only author to literally left me feeling paranoid after I put down his books. There is actually a X-box cthulu game. Although not very cthulu like Its stinks of "the shadow over innsmouth". Down to the odd people and dilapidated town. I've never read much of the mythos but I can say that I enjoyed "lurker at the theshold" even though people arent too kind to it.
