of course the most realistic monster movie you will ever see, hands down. it wasn't without it's flaws, and I'm sure there will be people that will find fault with all kinds of things and try to shoot holes in the plot and all that, but compared to so much of the crap that is put out these days that is like 1000 times more utterly ridiculous, this was fantastic that said, I should report that I have purposefully avoided all the hype, including reading the 6 page thread on the board here (which I will now go back and do). but it totally exceeded any expectations that I had (which there were few of because I tried to avoid the hype) I won't say anything else until it opens and more of you see it because I'm not a jerk like that with the spoilers, but boy is it tempting!!!
Okay, now I'm really getting excited for this movie! Like you, I have avoided most of the hype, so your thumbs up makes me optomistic. Plus, I know you know you're monster movies.
Good! now i'm really looking forward to it... and i don't have to throw away my sdcc cloverfield poster
did you like The Host? because I didn't, and all the hype totally killed that movie for me. this eats The Host for breakfast and poops it out into a big pile of monster guano
well I hope my hype doesn't ruin it. does my hype overshadow the rest of the internet/Hollywoods hype? I don't know how that works. does it go: Hollywood Legitimate Movie Critics Internet Skylar or Skylar's Opinion - - - - - - Everything Else ?
the Skylar-hype-machine transcends the need for comparison to other hollywood hype. It's like the straight-talk express of movies.
that's good to hear. I guess you can trust me when you know that I hated Transformers but liked No Country For Old Men. that said, I did give some Uwe Boll films alright reviews and I did pay money to go see National Treasure 2 AND enjoyed it. can I still be trusted?
I can't abide by all your decisions.... but your dislike of Transformers is all the credentials you need in my books.
The transformers movie totally kicked ass man?!?! And I am OG when it comes to transformers. Like I was all about shockwave in kindergarden.
whatever. National Treasure was FUN. and it featured some geriatric adventuring, something we haven't seen since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I'm a sucker for secret societies and treasure hunts
YES! I totally agree. Of course I take on the Illuminati in my free time or fun and profit, so of course I'm biased, but I have to agree with you, movies like this are k-rad, including and perhaps exemplified by the first Tomb Raider movie. Angelina Jolie versus THE ILLUMINATI. How could that not KICK ASS?!?!?
It's my secret desire to watch these movies, but after the Wickerman remake, I fear I could not enjoy a Nick Cage joint ever again...
I mean, he hams it up, don't get me wrong. if you can get past him (and ALL the acting for that matter), they are really fun in that stupid, completely not at all plausible kind of way. like so over the top and ridiculous that you gotta love it.
On the basis of that comparison? Yes. You just hated on the most idiotic movie of 2007 and and liked one of the smartest, so yeah. skylar the critic = two thumbs up. So glad to hear you liked Cloverfield.
Nick Cage hasn't been good since Wild At Heart, maybe Red Rock West. The original Wickerman also sucked so how Nick Cage of all people was going to save the remake? Remake is the kiss of death in movies anyhow. Hollywood is so out of ideas that they have to keep recycling! Well that's another topic altogether... Going to see Cloverfield Friday and have zero expectations, which I find best since most big budget sci fi/horror movies nowadays rely so heavily on poor CGI and suffer greatly from awful writing. Chris
Nick Cage made that re-make worth watching for me, he was over the fucking top. I wasn't actually stoked to see Cloverfield until I saw this thread. Hey Skylar, you liked the American Godzilla movie right?
cage is like a small dog to me. i cant look at him and not crack up. i have hope for cloverfield. havent seen a good movie in a long time. been losing my self in Avatar: the Last Airbender. awesome series! just awesome. i liked the host. the monster was secondary. it seemed a good essay on social structures during catastrophic situation.
