Usually 'friends only'. Here's hoping I get my unpainted mini yellow chaos some day. I actually had a dream last night about doing into RxH and Mori giving me the yellow chaos. I woke up so stoked only to realize it wasn't real.
Mori's shop is on the Aoto stop. Data kept referring to his stop as Waaay Aoto it was so far. It's supposedly an old toy manufacturing town and Mori grew here which is why the location was chosen. This area was very cool though because it was a definite contrast and relief from the hustle and bustle of all the other toy shop locations. Japanese suburb to say the least. One of the many cool incidents while we were at Shinto was a sudden knock on the shaded door at around 9:30pm. Mori goes to unlock the door and it's an older gentleman who rode up to the shop on a bicycle and hands Mori a clear bag with parts of a new figure casted in flesh color fresh out of the molds because they weren't even cut yet. After a brief exchange Mori casually walks by me with my eyes bulging out of my head because I was peeping hard to say the least. I had a feeling Mori didn't want to reveal the figure just yet and my suspicions were right because the person he did the collab with was not there and didn't feel it was right to show it without his permission. He did show us the head which he worked on which then caused my head to explode. I felt like I was in the cookie jar at that point.
no problem Connell, glad I could share. Also, I don't know if anyone caught my pic of Mori's badass whip that was in front of the Shinto store. Looked to be a vintage, all black Bridgestone townie cruiser complete with fenders and a huge rack I don't know if anyone else is a bike geek but Bridgestone is one mean, sought after japanese frame brand here in the states for their quality and craftmanship. Supposedly Mori picks up his shipments of boxes on his ride and brings it to the shop by these means. punk as fuck.
i dunno what the value/following of that would be in japan but even though they are pretty unheard of here dudes would go pretty crazy if they saw that go past. handlebars look a little weird though? brian (mondocoyote) took a photo of me with mori when i was there but it's pretty much the worst photo of me in existence. definately the best store i went to on my trip but there's no way i would have found it without some help.
That Mini Evil was never available. It looks to be just a proto. Don't think a production Mini Evil has been released on that base vinyl yet either.
damn. I really hate seeing fortune cats I don't have. That all white/DIY would be very well put to use.
If I remember right that bike is new. I was talking to Mori about it right after he opened the shop. It weighs a ton and solid as a rock and it rules. Not cheap from what he said and not sold in regular shops so I am still looking for a place near me that might have one.
it's a Bridgestone. They make a lot of Keirin style track bikes but the quality of Bridgestone is pretty sought after here in the states.
Every time I read this thread, I get more and more excited to see the shop first hand in a few months . Thanks for the pictures and stories guys...keep them coming!
I just wish I have the cash to visit the store. It'll be a very memorable experience. Save lots of cash for the trip!
Man you got that right - and pray for the yen to fall! It's at 97.5/1 USD now. So a trip to Japan is now 20% more expensive than it was last year. I'm flying over tomorrow morning, and I am *definitely* spending less than I would if that rate were better.
Cheers. Psyched to score a roundtrip plane ticket for $385, but not at all happy about today's rate - less than 95/1!!! If this trend continues, there's going to be some hurting in kaiju land, across the board. Anyway, back on topic - looking forward to checking out the RxH cookie jar and other assorted sundry when I get to Tokyo. I'll be blogging bits and bobs on my blog as I go along. Just went to the new Popsoda shop - very nice!!
yeah I'll be spending a bit more carefully if the yen doesn't improve, but the spending money is already put aside and has been earning a lot of interest so it should balance out a bit by the time we get there. nice deal on the plane ticket too...we got the best deal of all and used frequent flyer miles popsoda is in osaka right? the cookie jar, the Aoto neighborhood, the shop...I can't wait for all of it. I'll be keeping an eye out for pictures!
yes,,the rate right now is: £1 = 147yen when i last went two years ago (oct 06'): £1 = 240yen!!!!! i am heading over in march,,it better get better,,i am going to spend stupid amounts of money regardless,,but please,,this is hurtin... at this point,,i will only be looking at the cookie jar in aoto,,nothing else
Yep Popsoda is in Osaka. Nice new location/shop too. The good news is during my walk around Osaka I didn't buy anything. Well, there's still tomorrow and the Hobby Con in Kobe...and Tokyo... Oh, there's a brand new Mandarake in Osaka (Shinsaibashi) if anyone is heading to the city soon. The one in Namba closed.
