I got this with my spaceman, does anyone know the deal with it? Was this apart of the initial release or is it a one off?
Dang! Please, if you could get a fairly high quality scan of that and post it up here, I know that I'd be grateful!
Fantastic bit of art right there. So, Wolfspaceman? I really like it on the brown paper stock too. Reminds me of some of the great example of package art people have done.
pretty sweet that his gloves have claw holes! this is alot like the bags that the buta-painted Gseries came in..
Would love to see another giant Spaceman (heck even a couple from his new character line) but I just shudder to think about the challenge in trying to get one of those. Still, that would be some great potential. We need more giant sized toys from everybody!
Very nice! Pretty please, it would be great to see a high res scan I think if we all pooled some funds and sweet-talked Mr. Buta into a free trip to the good 'ole USA, we could hook him up to a mind control machine, and "convince" him into making a new release of Mr. Giant Spaceman, just for us, and for a Christmas gift....
The 'print' is on medium sized paper bag and I have never seen anything of it's like so I had to ask. I would love to see some more giant sized Butanohana! It make's perfect sense- one and a half inch->5inch->18inch. Fuck the standard.
I love this print! I would be down for screen printing some SBer's rendition of Buta toys if everyone would play nice. I just don't really know how to go about organizing it.
if someone creates an illustration based on a toy, does it require clearance from the toy maker? or is it merely courtesy?
Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if Buta ever made his Ultraseven print for sale? Maybe at the Gargamel show? I've always wanted it:
I'm not saying copy this exact illustration. I guess I could have made it more clear. I would be down for some people on SB drawing their own versions of toys in one color and I could screen print them. Sometimes I think people are a little gun shy, especially when the word "bootlegging" starts getting thrown around. It's funny how some get a pass. Nevermind it's not worth the headache honestly, just thought it would be a fun idea. edited to add a quote
No, that's fine and you don't have to get any approval. However, if you use one of their characters, logo's, etc. straight from the source than technically, yes you have to get approval. I suggested this because of the Bullmark logo t-shirts a while back that someone was making and selling. I take issue with people who feel it's okay to use others IP for their own gain. Not at all suggesting CAS was or is going to do this. However, I felt it was in bad taste that someone a while back was knocking off the Bullmark logo for t-shirts here.
I don't think Jordan was using the Bullmark logo for his own gain. He merely made a few shirts with the logo for friends (mostly all vintage collectors). It was a made to order scenario, and the cost of screen printing/ t-shirts/ shipping I'm sure outweighed any profit. He sold them quite cheap (under $20 if I remember). Also Bullmark isn't making any t-shirts so how else is one to obtain it? I'm quite happy he did it!
^ quotes got mixed up there. also, bandai still prints a variety of official bullmark shirts. they're available at g-fest every year for $5. i wouldn't think either company minds if someone prints a few fan shirts, though, but who's to say.
Probably not, but I still feel you should get the person/artist/company's approval before you go that route. It's really a matter of respect. I have found that most people are okay with it if you ask first. It's when you don't that they tend to get offended. I don't think Bullmark not making t-shirts is a viable reason to make your own tho. Sorry. Reads as though they have an agreement with Bullmark then and for that price... You may be right about how the company feels, but again, I just think out of respect one should simply ask first.
There is something endless about the Butanohana aesthetic, its really expressive. I did a small painting a while back by observing a toy as best as i could, was really fun got a lot out of doing it. I think you are really lucky to have come across this print but I think I would faint if it was one of those crazy watercolours.
