I'm very very excited
I have no interest in this toy...but seriously? You have to take a photo of your toy collection? So fucking absurd. So glad I collect the toys I do without this nonsense.
Agreed, the needed proof is ridiculous. I get wanting to "Weed" out flippers, but this isn't the way to do it, plus most flippers still have collections
To each their own, fellas Good news is - we're having a ball down under That totally counts btw JP - very impressive!
yeah this whole thing seemed pretty funny. cant wait for these guys to start requiring monthly photo updates of the toys they purchase.
Two months from now: hey do you still have that in your collection? We need proof or we're gonna have to repo some of your collection
Close but no cigar!! The collection photo is required as a lot of instagrams are set up with stolen photographs etc. and through a bunch of different ways, having the collection photo provided makes it much easier to weed out the dastardly flippers You could have 1 piece of sofubi in your collection, or even none - it's just about proving that you're legitimately interested You lot apparently don't like the toys, but lucky for us - there is a huge amount of interest in them, and it would be tragic if they wound up in the wrong hands If you guys have any suggestions for a better method please throw them my way Jack
I would suggest not being insulting to the people who inhabit the place you are currently advertising your toy show. You can agree with what people think about your methods or completely disagree but saying they "don't like toys" because they don't like your mutant registration act is just petty. @dannyvslc @MoonspellxRites and @bryce_r all have wonderfully unique collections of toys and one of them was at the first ever MVH studio show doing MVH inspired tattoos for fans. So yeah, he probably likes toys.
Not quite actually Waterbear!! Don't be so quick to be offended!! I said "the toys" - talking about the toys in the show, not toys in general, sorry I didn't make that more obvious Nothing petty at all on my end The registration ensures that the people that are flying over for the show don't leave empty handed Nothing mutant at all, just reasonable safeguards P.S. if any of you guys are interested in coming get in touch and I can recommend good flights accommodation etc Jack
Again, not liking the idea of giving out their personal information has no correlation at all to not liking the toys. Sticking the two things together makes no sense. There are two toy makers on IG now that require you repost a specific image just to enter their lotto for a toy. I would love those toys but I hate that idea so I won't do it. The two things are not mutual in any way.
I was referring to the statement earlier "I have no interest in this toy", and the agreement from thereon Like I said - to each their own If anybody has anxiety about giving out personal information they can of course feel free to contact me and explain that and I'll be more than happy to accommodate We have a beautiful and supporting sofubi scene down-under and much like our border patrol protects our wildlife - small measures like the registration help protect the interest of the lovely and devoted parties that contribute to such a nice culture How silly to be offended by such pleasant intentions Please anyone who has suggestions as to how the registration could be run in the future let me know - this won't be the last solo show in Melbourne - believe me!!
not to sound all weird and defensive but i am a very big bgt fan. the past couple years izumo has worked at my shop tattooing toy collectors in the states that reach out to him. having attended a large number of toy shows from the west coast to the east coast i can say these artists and galleries have done a very decent job of keeping flippers to a minimum and have never done some funky stuff like this.
Hey dude!! I know that - Izu will be tattooing dudes at my buddies studio as well, I can't wait!! He's an awesome dude, hey? I'd really love any suggestions if you had them? As it stands though - without the registration, half of the toys would inevitably go to flippers (trust me, they're rampant down here), and no one wants that to happen! Much nicer to register in advance than to turn someone away on the day!! I've put on a couple of other shows down here, and haven't done the registration process, and would only do it again in instances like this for shows for artists that attract the devious lot we call flippers!
Sorry but it makes no sense and isn't logical in any capacity. There have been people on this board who have good reps that flip. It's part of the hobby. My issue is requesting to have someone take a picture of his/her collection as some validation or street cred to buy a toy because it's fucking stupid. Who is going to judge whether someone is "worthy"? There are plenty of collectors who end up selling on ebay or trading items. You have others who have very limited collections due to funds. What if someone loves keshi and/or inexpensive toys and has a small collection...are they deemed unworthy? What is the connection and line where YOU can decide if someone is allowed to buy a toy. What if people start sending pictures that aren't theirs? Alternately, you could take a picture of the person buying the toy that is numbered and that still isn't a guarantee that that person won't sell the toy in the long run or try to profit from it. I think Manny is onto something. You should have someone register and then have the person take a photo with a newspaper timestamped every two weeks to prove that they still own it. Oh and Manny I have an Atom A Rxh devilman..if you are interested. But I will need you to send me current collection picture. Message me.
Oh no! It seems you've misunderstood Bryce!! There's no element of "worthiness" involved!! I've had a bucket of people register already, and of the photos I've been sent I have recieved some with only 1 or two pieces of sofubi, as well as one with none at all Collectors big and small, and collectors to be - everyone is welcome to purchase - but not those who would instantly flip the toy for a profit, in the place of someone who would cherish it I've also had someone register who is an identified flipper, and his registration was refused Anyone who buys a piece at any point is of course welcome to sell it - it's theirs and that's absolutely fine - in fact it's entirely reasonable!! That's not what a flipper is though - a flipper attends a show with the sole purpose of turning a profit, and that's the only type of people the registration seeks to weed out Please let me know if there is anything else that is confusing you? I'm really more than happy to clear anything up
I'm confused as to what this really accomplishes. I think registering with a valid name/address and picture ID would be the best way to register if you really wanted to be super-wary of flippers. You could then compare eBay listings to where people who bought things live, or something. But hey, even then they could lie. I think no matter what you do, flippers are going to see any show as a way to make money. They're scummy like that. Personally, I'd love to see makers start subtly customizing their headcards or the toys themselves so they can identify everything they sold and match it to whomever is selling on eBay. I think some clueless HxS flippers got caught that way by photographing the tattoo drawing included in the bag before, and a guy who tried flipping a Splurrt piece that had subtle hair color differences. Sneaky sneaky. I do love it when a flipper gets foiled. But that would be a shitload of work, and flippers can just use a mule next time. The fight against flippers is like punching a wall sometimes.
Howdy hellointerloper!! The ID registration process I think is a little bit invasive, I'd never want to give my address to anybody, that's why the collection photo works - it's impersonal The recent NagNagNag registration at Soft Vinyl Sydney is a fantastic testement to the effect of a simple registration process all three pieces went to well deserving homes and there wasn't a flipper in sight - although many had tried to register!! I understand that it is a change to the usual, but in reality it's an entirely harmless way to ensure everyone plays fair Lots of love
i know some artists just toss entry ballots for known flippers. they never get called and its not a spectacle. i feel like rampage is the most savage flipper catcher and i like it
Just more bullshit that affirms my loss of interest in the toy 'scene'. Toy collector profiling . . . what a fuckin' sad state of affairs! The Australian obsession with other guys collections still cracks me up though!
