Ah, that's okay John. It is really hit and miss with these toys you think would do so well; but you end up taking on the risk yourself. It is always nice to have some avenues in North America to actually get stuff from Japan, and we appreciate the folks who make it possible.
I dig the details (rivets, etc.) but the sculpt looks too rigid to me. Of course it is a robot though...
So I have to ask: What's with the "M" as a belt buckle? Red Baron usually is RB, Mach Baron (and Zollmen's Mad Baron) is MB. Why just M? Anyhow pre-ordered mine.
^^LOL Nah, it's just something culled from a couple of the menko illustrations. Go to the first page!
I am really excited too. Not sure (nor do I even care) what the production numbers are going to be on this fellow, but I am really happy to see that he is available through several avenues. So nice to be able to get a rad toy without having to beat down yourself chasing after it and going through several hoops. As doomsDAY pointed out in the Red Baron thread, I think it would have been a great improvement to add the painted face lines, as it is extra character for him, and separates him just that little bit more to identify him as a bootleg, as opposed to a normal RB toy.
I don't know they look cool on the old Menko cards but I think the yellow lines on the face would make this toy look too busy. Just my opinion.
Yeah, maybe. I would like to see it done up in a test shot to decide, which maybe they did. I just like a bit more colour. The blue on the belt though I definitely miss. It is just the extra small things I find which can set it off sometimes. The one small part on the buckle say, adds a lot to balance all the red of the whole rest of the toy. Even more so then the face lines.
Ha! That would imply I had any skills Sanjeev. Let's just say I set out to build a model of the Millennium Falcon, and what it turned into was a cross between Dagobah and the Death Star trash compactor.
Ha! But c'mon, man! Paint markers are basically just fancy felt-tipped pens...they're kinda idiot-proof!
Some pretty excellent shots of the Fake Baron molds posted by Awesome Toy: Now this is sofubi making. I love it. Odd to see so much detail on the outside, since generally it is just a cast blob, but maybe that was done to easily identify all the individual components. Really excited for this guy. Edit: I could be wrong, as looking at it again, these could be the principle casts used to make the molds, i.e. the actual shaped parts, seeing there is that level of detail and you can see the flashing on the ends, whereas I initially assumed that they were the molds for pouring and pulling the vinyl. Although it does say for 'slash'/slush molding, which is the typical spin casting method.
Question answered; those are indeed the molds for pouring. Looks like they were running a test run on black vinyl, unless the plan is to paint it all over with a base of red (ambitious, but doable of course), or perhaps these are another run. A matching black version would be pretty cool too. Seeing how nice the black MB looks, I can see it easily working as well on bootleg.
What do you guys think of the haired version? (search KK for the photo) I think it's hilarious. Don't really like the grey highlights.
Some minutes ago they have posted this on their Instagram account: "The first lot of our 1st release Fake Baron have finally arrived~ Sorry it takes so long for people who ordered this release. But the custom Red vinyl we ordered from the factory is very hard to produce, took us couple attempt to finally get it right. In the next couple days we will share more work in progress images of this 1st Fake Baron."
Confused. So they've arrived completed and are ready to ship out to Medicom, Lulubell, or directly if ordered through Awesome Toy, or a pic of the progress will be posted? Sorry if I seem edgy I'm having another bad week of shit I've ordered awhile ago, trying to get updates, and everyone suddenly seems to forget how to respond to emails. Not so much this toy but other things.
I know that the barons are all being painted up now..so shouldn't be too long all the packaging is printed and done
