To avoid fainting, keep repeating: It's only a trailer... it's only a trailer... it's only a trailer...
I'm going to point out the positive sides of this: 1- Kids now, who'd have no reason to know who Astro Boy is less their parents are down, will now know and maybe appreciate the classics when older. 2- It's not by Disney. 3- It's not live action. Besides, it's just a trailer.
There was just an Astro Boy TV series and toy line launched a couple of years ago and it went over like a lead zeppelin. Why do they think the concept is going to work out in a movie format?
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5me0j ... 009_webcam yeah, 2009 is the year for destroyed childhood dreams
Haha btw that's not even the dragon ball tsr, it's using footage from the jet li/jackie chan forbidden kingdom film.
The scene is from Astro-Boy's first flight, so he's wearing his pjs... The Japanese-produced ASTRO-BOY reboot flopped on WB Kids a few years ago, so the big-budget feature film was pulled from release before it could get into theaters. This is another bid to push ASTRO-BOY on the global market (with emphasis on the US), and I think that it will work. Remember, that the folks behind this film (and next spring's GATCHAMAN prequel) are made up -- mostly -- of ex-Pixar/Dreamworks animators. ASTRO-BOY was originally to be directed by Colin Brady (EVERYONE'S HERO). The replacement director, David Bowers, hails from the UK and worked on DANGER MOUSE and DUCKULA. After moving to the states, he worked for Amblimation, and eventually worked on SHARK TALE and the Oscar-winning WALLACE & GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT, before directing his first feature FLUSHED AWAY. So, let's not discount this film before we see it -- it's slated for release NEXT October.
All that means to me is that the animation will be well-crafted, but it doesn't say anything about the script or whether or not the people producing it know (or care) anything about the subject matter. I only recently watched the American version of the first episode and was truly moved by it. It would be nice to see a movie that conveyed the same spirit.
\ Haha btw that's not even the dragon ball tsr, it's using footage from the jet li/jackie chan forbidden kingdom film. yeah i likes it better than the real thing. Inside, i want the Astroboy movie to be good. as a second, at least i'll get to see astroboy on the big screen
Well, we will find out the answer to your query next October, won't we? (Personally, I'm more worried about the GATCHAMAN prequel being released this coming spring...)
