Depends. When you say "PC socket" what do you mean exactly? One of those small and blue VGA connectors? Mac Minis have DVI output. And you can hook up a DVI to VGA adaptor with little issue. Those adaptors came with all Mac Minis prior to the FireWire 800 models (the current ones) but you can buy one separately if you need it. I'd do a Google search for people hooking up Mac Minis home media centers. It's a very common use.
Sure can. I used to have mine svideo'd in and now I have it DVI'd. Any of the new televisions is nothing more than a fancy monitor.
Hmmm gonna try it out then. So just use a normal DVI cable that come with the macbook pro? Whats the difference between using a laptop, or mac mini for resolution compared to say an HDMI resolution? The WD TV uses HDMI and quality is amazing.
I fucking hate Apple. Dress up sub-standard kit in a pretty outfit and the masses will love it. After all these years, the Ipod still is'nt the best sounding MP3 out there. It just looks nice. Because who would want a music player to actually sound good..............mugs. Also, when is Steve Job's going to start wearing a different outfit. That black roll neck must stink. All his money and he dresses like a nerdy tramp.
DVI and HDMI carry the exact same quality. The only difference is that HDMI also will carry sound. With the DVI (or svideo or VGA) you'll need to route the sound to the television as well. The DVI input on my TV has a minijack port right next to it that I use to plug into the speaker minijack port on my mini.
right, because this has EVERYTHING to do with their products right? who made the claim the ipod was the best sounding MP3 player? i think this might go back to people being anti-apple equalling out to anti-"what the masses want". it's not cool to like apple because everyone has their products now.
How do I get good sound from a mac mini to my hi-fi then without going through the lame minijack port?
I hate the ipod because apple bowed to the RIAA and there are numerous options that cost lest and have more functionality than the ipod, I could care less what other people have or like. I'm covered in tattoos, I fit right in with everyone else, I just like my mp3 player to do more than limit my options.
oh there are plenty of reasons why people don't like the ipod, yours is a valid one, but making a generalized decree with nothing backing it up except a comment about a CEO's fashion sense (which i imagine he wears that outfit based on tradition at this point...he has even brought people out to mock him in the past at apple events) is pretty ridiculous to me. if you don't like something, ok with me. just have some reason why, not just because "apple sucks".
Ah leave to the master of semantics YOU have valid reasons why apple sucks in YOUR opinion. I don't think Apple sucks and I have valid reasons why I like them more than PC.
You might want to catch up to 2009 when Apple dumped DRM for the vast majority of music available via the iTunes store. They "bowed" to the RIAA when iTunes and iPods were a novelty and they had no choice. When Apple became a big enough force as a music distributor as it is, they were able to dump that junk. If you actually would read the backstory on this stuff, Apple and Steve Jobs specifically hates DRM and even hates carrier locked cell phone service. But they have no choice. That's the world we're living in. That said, I don't like the trend of the iPad being yet another locked device where you can only add apps that come from the iTunes store. So is the deal that Apple will "free" media and "free" us from phone contracts (one day) but no matter what we must bow to them for apps?
This is such a boring tread that I’ll chip in. I really don’t understand the nead to spend money for shuch gizmo, outside of a work reality. We are not some flies attracted by blimping lights at all time. Is so hard to hold a book in your hands or read on a laptop ? You like music, why don’t you listen to it without a fucking plug in your ears ? Fuck Ipads, fuck Ipods, Fuck cells, fuck tatoos, fuck apps, fuck twiting, fuck Nag Nag Nag I love you all anyway.
you're questioning extraneous spending on a board that centers around hype and over-priced collectible toys? I'm so sorry we bored you. Obviously you weren't so bored because you typed out a reply. Yikes. I think I need a break from this place. I'm bored.
I like how in a post about, essentially, being a technophobe or maybe more accurately a technohater, you bitched out tattoos, one of the oldest arts and can be done with 0 technology
Thanks for being a know it all, the ipod still isn't that functional, and I was taking a good natured swipe at atease (and he got it). If you'd like to discuss DRM and copyright I'm well educated and versed in the topics.
The 1st ipods didn't have drm. They added that later with itunes. I still kinda hate itunes and iPods but they have come along way. I mostly listen to podcast on my ipod so it is a free media device in my world. Anyone who thinks portable PC's are better than portable Mac's are drinking the crazy juice. Feel free to argue about desktop computers but who cares? Who uses a desktop at home anymore? I bet they still buy DVD's too. I want this for a few reasons: 1. I never bought an iPhone (hate AT&T, especially in SF) so this give me access to all the cool software written for the platform. I never bought a kindle so I still want a reader of some sort. 2. It is a different interface from what I work on. When I use my MacBook at home I am always reminded of work stuff I need to deal with. The iPad give me a different user experience at home. 3. I only know a few developers and there are all excited to write applications for this device. Augmented reality might actually catch on with this type of interface. I can wait for the astronomy nerds to deliver star watching software for this device. 4. I like tablets/pda's and have been hoping for them to get traction in the market (I owned a Newton). Maybe Apple has enough clout to make this happen. The device seems so Star Trek I am all geeked out and excited.
Don't say I should have posted in purple for you BD6969, I'm far from a technohater, I'm on the net here no ? I was just steaming out a bit and not being overly serious .. Give the thing to me and I'll use it a few minutes. It's just that I think those fashionable gadget consume a lot a precious time for nothing. Yes, just like being here. I know.
I do I have no use for a computer that is portable and I'd probably break them. When I'm out I aint pussy footin' around town trying not to get my shoes dirty. Also I download movies more than I buy DVD's. Bluray is useless on the few movies I watch enough to warrant owning a movie (night of the living dead, original star wars.) Before it gets asked, I still have my VCR too. I'm backwords compatable but also I move forward. I don't get people who abandon past tech, the past is as much fun as the future and as relevant. Why VCR? Cause there's a lot of bad shit that never made it past VHS that I love. I like vinyl cause it sounds awesome. I like MP3 because I can't play my vinyl (very well) on the train. I like Mac and PC. I'm just an overall lovin' fool, huh? nefasth, I was just kidding around, nothing big. The tattoo part just made me laugh.
i always thought its the intention of Apple (not only the iPhone experience) to protect from hackers as well as people who put unwanted content like spam and ads into their apps? i noticed a big difference say in the Cydia world where you can download unauthorized apps. On Cydia, there has been hacks, fake apps and the like which are not certified and risk is your own when you download it. on a positive note, the apple app community has made many a rich man, which is hard to say for other communities for developers. a single guy living at home can get his ideas onto an app and make a fortune. that is the attraction for developers because of the vast amount of potential. from a user point of view that is the attraction too that apps are so cheap or for free and has redefined the cost of purchasing an app (nintendo and sony must rethink their strategy)- an average of only $1-3 a pop... Since we are all talking about building a good community here on skullbrain, i think apple has handled that well in that aspect yet retain quality experience and redefine how we use portable products. I can go on about how much I use my iPhone in so many ways but you all know that already. i read even though so many apps have been sold, apple hasn't made that much money from it. however in return its given an opportunity for added value for the iphone where money can't buy.
Me too! I still turn it on once in a while. I love the trash file sound and icons exploding which they implemented into osX. You are missing out a lot for the iPhone. Why don't you get the iPhone hacked (or buy one jailbroken) so you can use any service you wanted?
I think its the super small pin socket... I'll have to buy an adaptor to plug in the DV cable before plugging into the TV. Will google now for mac mini users. Thanks!
