Saturday I took my 11-year-old son, David to the following Sumo demo in the Peace Plaza in San Francisco's Japan Town. He got to meet the guys there and later "fought" former world champion Byambajav Ulambayar, also known by his ring name of Daishochi. The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvIqH6Z0 ... ata_player
your the best dad ever!!!!!!!! i was always taken to the Ohio State Universities wrestling meets. My grandmother was the secretary for the head coach. what a tough sport!! i ran in highschool and college competitively, wrestling was always one i thought was much tougher, in training and all around being a great athlete. i have always watch sumo when having the chance to, not to say i follow it more than channel surfing. I bet your son loved it!!!!!! thats a great event, wish seattle had this. i think it would do well up here.
I've always wanted to watch live sumo. Only seen it on video. I think it'd be something on my to-do list for Japan. Cool of you to take your kid.
when I went to japan, it was just before sumo tournaments were going to start. I've been told it's one of the last bastions of japanese culture/tradition.......I've always wondered what were the steps/manners one had to adhere to? (excuse my ignorance in advance)
I used to watch Sumo on TV (British) a long time ago . . . . they had fairly extensive coverage as i recall . . . . I'm talking over 20 years ago though. I really enjoyed it
