I just bought my second detolf from ikea and attempted assembling it but i could not get the third pane of glass to sit right. I remember having a little trouble with this on the first one I built but I couldn't get this one to find its way in at all despite adjustments to the stripping and nuts. Anyone have any suggestions to get everything into the grooves?
haha i think i just realized what i did wrong. i think i put the stripping in the wrong way... i'm dumb
i recently caved and bought my first one... the shelves are crooked though... is it possible to put in the bars upside down?
just make sure you don't put the bars in backwards...the first one I built I didn't pay attention to how I placed the bars...one is in correct, the other has the glass holder on the outside...no biggie though/glass still has enough leeway to be secure
with any of this assemble-yourself stuff, you should always try and tighten down the screws/bolts uniformly as opposed to tightening one down all the way then move on to the next. Get all the screws/bolts snug, make sure the cabinet is all right angles and then tighten them up.
I'm building 8 of em right now. So far so good. Yeah you have to pay close attention to the directions. Tho I discovered that you don't have to assemble it upside down like it shows in the instruction if you decide to NOT install the legs. I start with the base board and built up from there. I have Burbury (sp?) carpet so the legs would just dig in and make moving them around for cleaning a hassle. Overall I like the Detolfs. Aside from the old Toys R Us showcase I have these are my faves. Here's a pic of my Toys R Us cabinet. My vintage GI-Joes are currently occupying it. I'm affraid they may get evicted soon with my growing vinyl addiction tho

DAAaaang (impressed)! How many have you built? The instruction show two guys puttin a Detolf together. I wonder how many built it solo? I use tape to hold things in place as I assemble. I also use Latex gloves to grip the glass real good and to prevent finger prints. All in all the 8 that I got came together without any problems.
I have built about 20 of the things. my suggestion is to enlarge the grooves slightly before assembly.
wish the detolf was that sophisticated i think when you tighten the bolts, you're just tightening them til you reach the end of the thread. i tried tightening and loosening one end on each side, but didn't seem to do anything... oh well whatever, i just got too impatient and i wanted to put all my shit in it. i'm used to it now.
