i used to run a php board like this and i think if ramos wanted to make 1 or 2 moderators that could help with the clean up / monitoring of members / posts - it might be a good idea? it could even be set up to where there was a different mod for each section. for example i love bxh toys but could care less about real head etc. also i set my old board to where you had to register to read the topics and that help cut down the jerks alot as well. it's a catch 22 because of people screaming free speech blah blah blah, but after i deleted a bunch of idiots and cleaned up the topics it really did make for a fun message board. just some thoughts...
I think the moderators suggestion is a good idea, and the deleting of idiots (trolls, flamers, people who don't legitimately care about the stuff we like) but as far as making the reading member only I think brian made some very good points about why we should keep it open to the public. But yeah a LITTLE more strictness as far as the boo-boo heads are concerned would be nice.
Moderating is likely the best step to keep stuff down. It totally sucks that it has to come to that, but as soon as a board hits a certain size, it's unavoidable... ignore buttons never work well for me because there's a certain joy i get from seeing bad posts from time to time... Moderation is also a real challenge because it's important to discern from people who rub you the wrong way personally and those who are a detriment to the board. Most times it's pretty clear though.
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine I keep my eyes wide open all the time I keep the ends out for the tie that binds Because you're mine, I walk the line
I am not sure about moderation. I have considered it, but I have just gotten good at not ready the bullshit posts. I know who I like on here and I read their posts. RSS reader is rad for this.
I don't want to see any moderators appointed. Many internet moderators have good intentions, but are not impartial. They don't even try to moderate in a consistent manner. Also, many moderators have trouble resisting the temptation to abuse their power. As far as I'm concerned, the fewer moderators we have, the better.
