Anyone watch this? I'm a bit surprised that there isn't a thread about it. We're watching Freak Show right now and I think it's my favorite season. Asylum was also fun - they tried to pack so many different elements into it, that it ended up being too much. But that's also partially why I found it so much fun. Haven't started Hotel yet. And on a related tangent, how about Scream Queens? I thought I'd hate it, but it's so over the top ridiculous it's actually quite fun.
My wife and I just finished watching Coven and watched the first episode of Hotel. We didn't start Freakshow yet. It is a fun show overall. Lots of twisted elements and tons of converging plots. The real highlight is watching the actors play different roles each season. Jessica Lange's Sister Jude was a great character. Sarah Paulson is excellent too.
Enjoyed the first season of horror story quite a bit. Gave up halfway through the asylum season just because I didn't have time to watch every week so with all the different plot lines I ended up too confused to care anymore. The witches season was fun in that wacky way you don't often see on television. The freakshow season started out cool with the killer clown then went so sideways and stupid I regret ever watching any of that ridiculous season. I don't know a single person who wasn't disappointed with how that season turned out and from what I read a few of the actors felt the same way and rumor has it that a couple people didn't return for this new season because they disliked the last one. Hoping to start hotel around halloween if I can.
The wife and I started watching AHS when the Coven season started, which we really liked, then went back and caught up on the first two seasons. Both had their pluses and minuses. Quit about 6 or so episodes into Freak Show. There was just too much going on, and we couldn't really care about any of the characters, 'cept maybe Kathy Bates'. It's definitely a hit and miss series. Scream Queens is pretty fun, mostly for how absurdly un-PC it is. Which it was actually scary though. Anyone watching Scream? Caught part of the first episode and it was pretty brutal. Might need to check it out OnDemand.
Yeah, I've heard most people don't like Freak Show but so far it's my favorite (about half way through). Though I've heard from my coworker that the ending isn't terrific - but she and I both like it the best. I didn't like Murder House, but have liked everything since. However, I'm not too excited about Hotel - haven't started it yet, but will eventually. Honestly, I think Lady Gaga is the main turnoff for me. I'm sure I'll get past it, but she's a roadblock to my excitement about the new season of AHS.
I watched the first and a half seasons of American Horror Story. But when they just started bringing too many elements into it at one time (Nazis, serial killers, aliens, lycanthropes, ghosts, etc.), it got too absurd. Plus the acting was atrocious. I was lost, although my wife insists that the later seasons were better.
I've watched every season since the beginning, Murder House and Freakshow were actually my favorite seasons. I do remember being a little disappointed in the ending of freakshow but I don't remember why now.. Asylum and Coven didnt do it for me so much.. I'd actually say Asylum was my least favorite. Admittedly the singing in Freakshow was a huuge turn off from that season.. I think Hotel is pretty good so far! There have been a couple scenes I thought were excessive and unnecessary but it seems I don't have the popular opinion on AHS, oh speaking of minority opinion.. I hate almost every character Sarah Paulson plays ("oh another crying girl..").. She was ok in Murder house, but it was such a small part. I'm actually surprised Lada Gaga doesnt bother me in Hotel, I do wish they hadn't played up her involvement so much though.. like if it had just been, "Oh shit! is that Lady Gaga?" instead of this being marketed as the Lady Gaga show. I've been really enjoying Scream Queens as well! Emma Roberts kinda bugs, but its her character, she's supposed to bug. I just have a suspicion thats what she's actually like and that makes her character a little harder to swallow. The security guard kills it every episode! /rimshot Overall though, I think the show is a lot of fun! It's funny how Falchuck/Murphy seem to be really good at offending every pc group equally! Again, all of this is just my opinion, one that doesn't seem popular.
I quit watching AHS midway through the 4th season after Twisty was taken out. I felt the preppy serial killer was just a low-rent 50s era Patrick Bateman. Twisty was so great it just made the contrast that much starker. Scream Queens is a real gem of a show for people that are really into horror. It's Cabin in the Woods meets Mean Girls. Emma Roberts has some absolutely wicked one-liners.
Binge watching Coven with my gf got me thinking about what my own personal purgatory would be, which was a nice introspective moment. Otherwise total camp. Between her character in Coven and Scream Queens (and Scream 4, for that matter), I'm inclined to think that you're right. She's excellent at playing a complete sociopath.
The first season of AHS is all that matters to me. The other seasons just became so weird and just downright boring. I also felt like they were trying to pull in references from other horror films and shows that it just seemed awkward. Scream Queens I have not watched yet, other than a preview that immediately turned me off. Dont think Ill be getting into that one. What we really need is a classic style Anthology series. Hell, just bring back Tales from the crypt, Tales from the darkside, Monsters, anything. Trying to make all these plot driven horror series that go on for seasons just isnt my thing, I can only get so many thrills from the same horror story. I prefer a 30-60 minute show that is a different story each time I tune in.
“Despite what you’ve heard hell is no fun…zero dinosaurs. As soon as I got there I was like ‘where are the dinosaurs’ and they were like ‘we know, Jesus broke in and stole them’. “ - ScreamQueens
Ariana Grande's lines were the best thing about last night's episode. The whole music-teacher side-story was pretty silly.
