I'm not sure I want to open up this whole can-of-worms debate here.

But, just to put it out there: HARD PASS

    Thanks for your reply.
So is it a can of worms?
If it is I didn't mean to start a debate here and I even didn't mean to make you scream at me!

Also I assume I am not the only one inside this community giving image generating thru AI a go.
In the end it's just eyecandy to me and I am addicted to that since I'm visually orientated.
In that case I don't mind wether it's produced by a pencil, brush, camera, hands, a promptline or what ever.

The first pics I posted in this topic were just a try.

The all-caps wasn’t meant to “scream” nor was it directed at *you* specifically. More of an emphasis against the implications of ai generated imagery, as a whole.

I’m pretty sickened with the idea of attempting to automate/supplant human expression and creativity by feeding a system multitudes of human-made works created by illustrators, photographers, sculptors, musicians, performers, and writers without consent, credit, or compensation.

All of this work is broken down into digital patterns that can be reconstructed into vague replicas and combinations of the real art. It’s automated plagiarism, at best.

I understand that it’s not a big deal if you’re just making things for your own amusement. But, my extreme distaste is in response to the hoards of people rushing into this as their latest scheme for making something out of nothing (now that their crypto and NFT dreams have fizzled out). They already are demanding to be recognized as equals to actual creators. As if typing in prompt requests is an equivocal medium to paints, inks, clay, or even digital illustration.

Not to mention the plans larger corporate entities have set their minds to to exploit it as far as possible. Any way they can cut creatives out of the budget, is as good as a golden goose.

Sorry if it feels like I’m coming down hard on you, I admit I’m bringing a lot of outside context into this. But, it’s undeniable that’s it’s arrived and here to stay- yet I’ll still prickle each time it pops up in a new place.

I guess it all depends on the intent. Making cool AI sofubi pics? Go ahead. It’s when people try and make money off of AI or claim to “own” the images that is a true problem.

My arthritis makes it extremely difficult to sculpt/draw/paint anymore. I have found A.I. really useful and often cut up various generated components to make composite images.
These collages allow me to express myself, and I invest as much thought into them as I did with my analog/real work.
    Just an alternative viewpoint.

Over-textured and candy-glossed these are just a few penis and skulls away from the fugly thread.

AI images are fun, but hardly feel more originally than referential

Working in animation I'm completely bombarded with the ai debate on a daily basis. Using it for fun is cool to see. Using it to make products is crappy. I joke with my wife that toymakers will easily accept ai and use it because tropes within what we collect exist, and originality is somewhat lacking in certain areas. Like a 2 headed toy, chunky vintage robot, Gundam style robot, bemon textured toy, etc. Not to say there isn't a lot of interesting things to collect within these tropes, or original fun ideas being made outside of them.
