My friend Louie Cordero's latest show "Absolute Horror" opened tonight at the Mo Space Gallery. I am, yet again, blown away by his latest works! Enjoy! These are cement sculptures of what he call 'zombies'--his modern take on these ghoulish images... Each sculpture is painted with acryllic.
Ridiculously great! The bottom of the kid's face has a definite Hellraiser feel, which is always cool. Any idea why he chose to work in cement on the zombies?
The fast and quick explanation to this is that 'Its crude' and its 'cheap'. I've asked Louie about this, he said one option could be fiberglass--which he has done in his previous shows. But I think he enjoys working with molded cement and he likes the texture. That it is a more durable medium and 'quicker' to work with. Downside would be every piece is mighty heavy. You might have noticed, he works on each piece up to the minute detail.
Awesome stuff....the kid with his face torn off looks badass! those first pics of the faces look like something dehara would do. cool stuff
wow! would love to own a piece.... It's strange we've never heard of him, it's dead-on our taste. thanks for posting this!!!
if interested, here's a link to some of Louie's pen and ink--- http://jonathanlevinegallery.com/?metho ... 6C8C733405 BY the way, Louie designed this "Nardong Tae" resin which I used before as my avatar: Another of Louie's painting which I own--This one is on loan to the Heide Museum for their upcoming show "World of Painting" slated this October to November in Melbourne, Australia. "Crocodile Milk".
Thanks! I love seeing people work with different materials like this, because I would have never thought about doing a project like that in cement. But now the gears are turning...
This guys work is amazing. That center piece with the two kids is fucking rad. I would totally show his work.
Those gruesome 'faces' are amazing. Thanks for sharing these pictures, this dude totally deserves more attention. That big piece with the two sitting/reading mutilated kids is beyond belief, i would totally rock this in my living room.
Wow, just wow. Any of those Zombies would be awesome above a fireplace or mantle. Like a trophy from an infestation.
No additional photos of the paintings in the background? Those look so awesome. I love his crazy color and the sheer amount of saturation. Superb work.
