I plan to spray these 2 guys

do i have to strip the paint first before i startand if so with what liquid?

If i do strip the paint off - do I then primer the figure as a base coat?

Ihave customized production toys before and painted acrylic or used spray paints - just want to check on the proper procedure with these type of toys and airbrush stuff being my first time into this area

Thanks in advance for the help!

1.You do not have to strip the paint off
    2. You do not need to prime it, but you can. If you do, prime it close to the base coat color or let it be your base coat. If you use an primer as base coat watch the joints, do not lay it down too much near them if you still want the toy too move. Touch up those areas with a matching color airbrush paint. If you do prime it, white is usually best to get bright colors to 'pop' easily
    3. I would get some cheap ass toy or model and mess with that before you hit those guys with any paint, but thats just me
    4. And as the odd man out, and to beat everyone to the punch... everyone is going to tell you to get V-color. It is what is used on most vinyl toys. I never have used it myself but I am pretty happy with Com-Art, Vallejo, Mr Hobby and Tamiya paints...maybe some day Ill get some, but its not the paint that makes the painter ;)

good luck and do share your results!

thank you for the tips - ill be sure to post what my final pieces look like after they get the airbrush touch!

also - when finished - do i clear coat it gloss or matte or not at all ?

can you provide me with any links to the paints you reccomended so that I may read up on whats good/bad?

I heard the V-Color is the way to go simply because it bonds right to th erubber/vinyl/plastic - any thoughts on this?

See Lash on this one, never used it but I doubt it "bonds" any more then any other paint. See the ''whatever" section for a discussion on v-color.

V color does indeed bond to the vinyl.
That's part of the reason why it's got a bit of a toxicity issue.
It's because of the solvents used in it 's manufacture.

    Kaiju Taro carries it.

if you intend to airbrush it.

Thin the CRAP out of it!

    Very thin, like milk! ;)

You need to practice ALOT to understand the crazy properties of this paint.

Also, it melts styrene. keep a note of that!
