Damn, I love the internet. I was searching for heavy metal bands from the 80's and re-discovered all these old bands that I liked back in the day. Reminds me of going to shows at Country Club in Reseda and the Troubadour in Hollywood. Both places don't exist anymore. Anyone heard of: Omen Witch Destruction Exodus Sodom Armored Saint VoiVod Onslaught Sacrilege Brings back any memories for anyone?
I saw Exodus in 1990 with Suicidal and Pantera. I think locomoto toured with them as well. Good show, but probably the most violent show I've ever been to. The following year I saw Voivod with Soundgarden and Faith No More. Good show. I hated Armored Saint for some reason. Escapes me now edit, I also saw Exodus on a Headbangers Ball tour with Anthrax and Helloween as well. Remember those dudes?
Geez, I haven't thought about most of those bands in almost 8 years. Voivod's Nothingface was almost always in my old car.
I also look out for old bands from time to time on the net. Hallows Eve Ruthless Nasty Savage OverDrive ... it never end you know ... I still listen to my old stuff, Hirax, Possessed, DBC, HellHammer etc.
I think about/listen to older metal as much as modern stuff, maybe more. Anytime I hear something newer I enjoy I usually say "shit, that's totally like Kreator!" than I get the urge to go rock some Kreator. But than I go "damn, I love this shit, I wonder what's new and similar?" and go listen to new stuff again. Than back to the old. It's a cycle like that of the windmill head bang. Anyway, you didn't mention Kreator, so for the record, KREATOR RULES!
you should check out German band Deathrow, class song titles as well, how can you not like 'riders from hell'
Or maybe a.................BETRAYER! This is a song in which I use to describe what I feel About people like you No sense for humanity, No idea about life This premise has been proved You used my trust to Satisfy your brainless lust Your word isn't worth Than puke in a dust Betrayer Betrayer Misleader, you twisted things To satisfy Deceiver, this greedy lust You can't deny How could I be so nave To believe all the lies You so easily told I think I've learned my lesson Too late The story took time to unfold Now I see your true face Behind your mask, a cheat, a fake Your word isn't worth than Puke in a dust Betrayer Betrayer Misleader, you twisted things To satisfy Deceiver, this greedy lust You can't deny Ignorant twisted mind, maybe it Would help To think before you speak From time to time Pretend to be a friend of mine But you would see Your mother if you could For less than a dime Intelligence lost, brain deseased, So you will loose, Fall to your kness Guys like you I cannot stand Maybe I must speak Another language Before you understand Betrayer Betrayer Misleader, you twisted things To satisfy Deceiver, this greedy lust You can't deny
I listened to all this stuff by I only still have all the '80s vinyl releases for VoiVod, Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, Exodus, Exciter, and Celtic Frost.
The only thing I liked about Kreator was thier record covers. No one mentioned Death Angel or Testament yet. Does anyone remember Pirahna?
Both the Exodus Bonded by blood tour and Metallica Ride the lightning tour were amazing. Biggest regret never seeing Ac/dc or Hellhammer. Kiss Creatures of the night tour was amazing too. They had a real tank on stage with a drum kit in it that shot flames into the crowd and gene simmons swallowed a sword and breathed fire into the crowd. He had the biggest platform shoes Ive ever seen. They all had make up.That Halloween I was Paul Stanley with full make up.
For me, it was and still all about: Metallica Exodus Megadeth Anthrax Morbid Angel Slayer Iron Maiden Annihilator Venom Testament Celtic Frost Helloween S.O.D. Voivod Napalm Death Death
Great memories of doing the paper route with my Sony Walkman. Saxxon Running Wild Diamond Head Grim Reaper Raven ...by the time thrash was identified I was out. Also, the first Loudness album is goofy fun.
has anyone seen the Anvil documentary? it's on my netflix queue, but i keep bumping it down the list because i don't know if i want to waste and rental space for it or not...
It's OK.....the trailer to the movie made me feel like I missed out on a great band. Once you hear their music you understand why they didn't make it 'big'. Movie was OK. Keep bumping it down....you're not missing anything.
Ha! That was a highly coveted position! I think you sold me the Music for Nations "Creeping Death" EP on green vinyl.
Armored Saint ruled even if only for the first two tracks on Symbol of Salvation that I always used to blast on cassette driving through the woods to my girlfriend's house at midnight when I was a wee lad. Reeeeeeeeeeeeign of fire!
