So, dunno how, but I was sent 2 sets of this MK2 Bertie Dirty Deeds figure set. At least, I think it's the same set twice. Not sure why or how. If I wanna unload the extra set, I should go elsewhere with it, right? But where? I don't like the selling experience, as it entails certain responsibilities, but perhaps I have to this time. I know, da bay, that other place with them robots, but really? Is that all I can do?
Flavour of the month . . . fleaBay is the easiest place for max $$$ or split up the set and sell as singles on Skidrobot . . . they'll lap it up!
After some more checking, it seems it's not 2 sets after all. It's a 12 piece set with very similar or even same figures in coloring and marking, but the same set, nevertheless. Actually, to be precise, it's 12 large pieces + 3 small square figures. While I'm not particularly attached to them as a coherent whole, for now, I'll just keep them as is. Keep an eye on my flickr sets, as they'll show up there eventually. If you want some of them then, let me know. Apologies for my confusion.
How on earth did you manage to unknowingly buy this? It was an exclusive direct-order set of the whole 12-bot Dirty Deed squad. Where as the surprise?
A couple of people I spoke with didn't anticipate receiving 12 of virtually the same toy . . . the differences are pretty subtle!
I know. It's not easy being me.. I had some 3A membership issues and not all of my orders show on my 3A account. So, I wasn't sure which one this was, because a few of the pre-orders are from like 6 months ago. If they're listed at all..
I think you're paraphrasing and if you didn't know the back-story I can see where the confusion arose. I bought the 7-pack, and though they are 7 completely different colourways . . . by the time all the distressing and weathering's thrown on 'em even they all look like pretty samey beat-up brown 'bots!
Fair enough. I was assuming that someone buying an expensive item like that would be perfectly knowledged, but I guess that's an unfair assumption. If you're looking to unload it, you could also go back to the 3A BST board with it and try and give someone who missed it the hook-up, and build some Toy Karma...
yeah, i didn't realize until after i purchased this set that they would be all the same. I thought it was filled with all the different variants. i'm all for the whole "squad" look, but twelve? geebus, I would have been ok with six or even four of the same kind. The only saving grace is that the DD colorway is my favorite. I'm ready to buy the 4 pack of WWRp Armstrong hoping it will contain the OG colors.... I don't need no stinking Medic.
That board makes me laugh . . . everyone chasing eBay prices or gouging the f*ck outta each other. I offered up a 2 for 1 deal on some Brambles when I was hunting a version I missed. Dude PM's saying he'll trade all the 3 I had available for the one 'and what else have you got?' . . . douche! selling 'em on fleaBay raised $300 so I just snagged the whole set! There's toy karma and then there's taking the piss! BTW No I don't want to trade ANYTHING for customs . . . ever!
Don't I know it I haven't actually accomplished anything on the 3A BST boards, but it was a nice idea
at least you guys got your robots. I've heard nothing but praise about them, and I preordered a Dirty Deeds Bertie back almost 6 months ago and I'm still waiting for it to arrive. Meanwhile 3A has released preorders for who knows how many other figures and sets... not the best way to do business if you ask me. But hopefully when this figure does finally arrive I'll like it. phil
I got a bit disenchanted with the way they do the pre-order thing, it makes it difficult to keep the enthusiasm. I've also tried to do some deals on that board and have been given the run around. It doesn't work out well when everyone is trying to fuck everyone else over. I just wanted a shadow zomb and people were trying to screw me for like $500. stupid. I have some of the heavy tk's but they're just sitting in my closet because I was so disenchanted with them I couldn't bother to play with them. I'm disenchanted about vinyl this week so maybe it's time to crack them open.
i hear you...but it certainly seems to be working for them. collectors can't get enough of them. I just wonder how long they can keep up this furious pace without some kind of collector fatigue.
It's a feckin' brilliant way to do business! . . . particularly if you're cutting out the middle-man and in effect dealing with the factory direct which is what Asley Wood is doing as 3A. It means everything's paid up front, quantities are made to order shipped en masse and onto the next item, no worrying about shifting stock or merch sat on shelves . . . it's gone! The hype seems almost to be self driven . . . by the time the old stuff actually lands there are a whole new bunch of collectors on board keen to catch upon the older stuff and desperate not to miss out on the next release . . . by which time 3A have moved onto the next idea, which could take any form as Mr Wood just creates it on the fly through his artwork or through licenses with organisations new to the toy game but itching for a slice of the action (having seen how successful it has been over the last 12 months). Even if the customer base changes annually it still keeps momentum going . . . the only area of concern is keeping the pace and quality of manufacturing. If that slides or falters it may upset the applecart!
the 1/6 are pretty sweet but i cannot afford the aftermarket pricing on those guys, wish i could though... wwrp 1/12 is in my budget, first 3a order for me was the 3x3 its been 2 months, and still waiting, not a huge deal, but would love to get my first 3a sooner then later, as i have alreayd $500 of pending orders... it does get somewhat nervewrecking knowing u have $ out, and have to wait months to see your product. i will try for the 8 pack of armstongs if i can swing it, some of the 3a stuff is to good to not pass if you can afford not to.
I'm about to finally put up my HTK Soh review on CDX. You won't be disappointed. If you're not feeling the vinyl this week, these guys will definitely give you the change of pace you're looking for. That's the only problem with 3A: you want to be frustrated at the long waits for direct preorders, but when something finally shows up, the toys are just so damn good that you can't stay upset. I'm personally more than ready for my Tommy Mission to come, but it sounds like my Drocloth and Membership kit will come first, even though I preoderd Tommy back in December or something.
But thats just it- they aren't shipping the orders out before they start taking collectors money again and again. Do one or two releases, get them out the door and then start taking money for the next two releases... repeat etc.. I'm not up to date on 3As pending preorders but since Berties I've seen talk about 2-3 1/6th human style figures, wwr dropcloths, wwr armstrongs, wwrp armstrongs, something called tharg, something called Popbot and another "-bot" that goes along with it- talk about wwrp Large Martins, etc.. All I'm saying is how about you get the damn Berties out to the public already? phil
They are! . . . I've been reading about 'em landing for the last couple of weeks. Maybe 3A are worried you might take an airbrush to 'em!
If find 3A are my toy equivalent of Mark Rothko. I like it, I see the work, vision and talent that's gone into it but it utlimately leaves me cold.
i'm a huge 3A fan. it can be a little long waiting on stuff, but i really couldn't care less because of how amazing everything is when it comes in. plus ash throws in extras all the time. they take care of their fans
