I've searched but because of the looseness of the term, I'm not having much luck getting to an answer... Over the holidays, I am going to revamp a display case that is built into a cabinet already in the wall. Part of my plan is to replace the wooden shelves for glass and wire it up with LED strip lights (top of the case pointing down and middle shelf (of three shelves) on the underside of said shelf). The display case has glass doors. My question is has anyone had an issues with vinyl, a closed space and the heat from LED lights? I know halogen lights can fade items but LED strips don't suffer from this; however, as I am not well versed in how vinyl ages, specifically when in an enclosed space with a mild source of heat, I wanted to ask the question. I'm quite possibly worry about something that isn't an issue but rather than not ask and go to pick up a piece in a few years time, only to find that it either breaks into pieces or has turned into a damp gummy bear, I felt it was worth sticking my novice head above the parapet to find out.
@Mr Fox LED's dont put off any heat and have almost no UV rays, if any, which can yellow clear vinyl.
Interested to see what setup you go with, as my current LED setup is a pain to maintain and I wouldn't want to do it again.
As cliche as it is, I have 4 Ikea Detolfs with the small Ikea LED light pucks for each shelf. Above the cases, I have a shelf mounted to the wall that is lit with some LED light strips I got off of Amazon. All of the lights are plugged into on power strip.
I've never took the opportunity to share here, but I would love to take a minute to share my displaying habits. Two quirks of mine is that I do not use any closed cases, and I try to be very conscious of spacing. I do not typically like the look of bunched up figures. In the past year I have moved to a new apartment where we had a spare bedroom I have just used for toys, but I have always tried to maintain this similar tone. So, here are six pictures that sum up the overall mood of my setup. Sorry that a couple of these pictures were taken at night. Click the spoiler for the pics. Spoiler
Great set up, spacing and grouping are nice . So neat, tidy, and clean! Thank you for sharing. I love seeing how everyone displays their toys.
View this post on Instagram Recent pic of half of one shelf. I like them all jam packed! Also, I only have one 4-tiered shelf to display at the time, so ALL the shelves are equally crowded, to allow for maximum toyage!
New place and I switched to only displaying few selected toys instead of everything. If you had told me before what toys would end up being on display, I would have been surprised as well - some of these are no brainers for me, but some I would not have guessed to make it (David Horvath's KFGU).
Got given some shelves so I have just put all my Buta and Gargamel toys onto them. First time I’ve been able to get everything together like this which feels nice. Need to do some rearranging and move some onto the top to get my smaller Gargamel ones on as well.
I’ve been putting my Toho guys around the entertainment center in the living room. Sorry for bad/disorienting pictures. Not sure the best way to show this. The others are either on the corner of my desk in the home office/guest room or on a shelf with other random toys in the dining room/game room. I don’t have much space here, but I do what I can.
beautiful! I've always had worries about how much weight these cases can hold. All of mine have toys on top too but those nekos are giving me anxiety!!
@qquuiidd You've got a bunch of really great toys there, its exactly the sort of collection i enjoy looking at the most. Nice and varied. I've got that M1 Barunga you have up top, and its a beauty! I also spy a version of the Bear Model Spectreman I don't have, so im quite jealous of that one
@The Moog Thank you sir. Your collection is one of my favorite. I have worn out my eyes by looking at your photos.
