Just dog-eared this page in the Sears Christmas catalog... will show to my mom tonight. Fingers crossed! BRAVO, Robert!!
Absolutely incredible photo, maybe my favorite of yours yet! @xSuicide Squadx Makes me want to create more dioramas (and get my hands on a Godesu to play with )
@Madmax405 Thank you, Max! Big compliment! @spatula007 Thank you, Tim! And yes, I did take a five foot tentacle to a lake and partially submerged it for a Sludge Kraken photo! @JoeMan Thanks, Joe! Initially, the model train cities/forests and stuff is where I was lookin’! But it can get a little pricey once you start gettin’ enough items together cool setup. Even still, I’d like to invest a little more in the future for it! @kid_miracleman Thanks, Chris! Was for sure goin’ for an older aesthetic, and I’m glad to have achieved something along those lines! @ungawa222 Thank you, Mike! Hope you get that weirdly shaped, wrapped gift under the tree this year! @Kerk1 Huge compliment! Thank you, Kerk! Fingers crossed you are able to get your hands on one soon. It’s be rad to see what you’d put together!
Just love this shot, Robert, and have to echo the thoughts of everyone here. You perfectly captured that vintage catalogue feel, I can already see myself circling my choice figures for the wishlist, and reading through the accompanying paragraph again and again..... and again. This could also easily be one of the toy store displays/dioramas which would immediately get covered in fingerprints from all the passing kids in awe of the toys and pointing out which one they wanted. e.g. or one of those posters (also frequently used for the promo ads) This photo makes me feel joyful, young, nostalgic, and just plain happy. Thanks for going through the efforts to stage this, and then also to share it here with us.
I hope some good people from here managed to have luck at the SF 82 lotto for the third version of this amazing dude. I am still somehow holding out hope for future accessibility. If you received the same email 'notice' as me though, a consignment price of 70,500円 a day after the event.... well that is sort of a bitter pill to be prescribed. I don't think my health plan will foot that one.
Fantastic news, Lee!!! Excited for you, and hopefully others on the boards are soon to join! I’m actually very surprised no one pointed out/complimented the Earthtron/Arstron homage on this third iteration. One of the coolest things about Spectrum Lab’s artistry, is, the homages are pretty apparent, but still manage to stand on their own. And I like that he expanded on the bag omake with a Godesu printed bouncy ball.
Thanks Robert and you are right...I had my head up my ass regarding the homage on this one. It’s totally an Earthtron homage. I have a giant and mid size vintage Earthtron but no standard..I need to pick one up to set aside this beauty. Edited for early morning iPhone autocorrect mishaps
Congrats @Michael Beverage ! I woke up to the same email as well ! Third time is a charm. Genuinely excited to get my first Godesu in hand, can't wait
It seems the third time really is a charm, I got the same email @Michael Beverage and @Madmax405! Great early start to my birthday Glad to see some more board members adopting Godesu. Going to need to up my camera skills for this one.
Congratulations to all the winners! Wow, it is great to hear. I don't know how many of these dudes were up for this lottery, but it is really nice to see so many 'local' fans get lucky. Particularly softens the blow of the aforementioned two.
Might as well out myself too I wonder how many were available this time, since we suddenly seem to have a lot of winners on the board. The Earthron palette is something I've started to seek out in vintage toys, which made this my favourite version of Godesu so far. Congrats everyone!
New guy landed yesterday. My initial impressions are very positive overall, but I wish a little more of the blank vinyl was on display. The blue spray on the arms and red on the chest/belly is pretty heavy, so you don't get the base showing up underneath like you would at the edges of a thin coat. That's just about my only issue though. As others have said the toy is made to a very high standard, the joints are firm but not too tight which makes him a pleasure to play with, and I love that he can hold the rubber ball that came with this release. Interested to hear other people's impressions! Good photos forthcoming, but for now I want to focus on the thick plastic tote bag he comes with. I've been lucky enough to see what I think is some of the fanciest packaging in the hobby, and to me this trumps almost everything else. Besides being unique and very pretty, it feels durable enough that I could really just drop Godesu in and go outside to play like the big dumb kid I still am.
@zindabad The coverage of this Godesu release is an homage to the '71 Bullmark Arstron/Earthtron. His take on the paints ring similar to the source, which has pretty minimal base vinyl showing. I do like the pink base, but I am happy with how close to the chest he kept this. Spoiler I'm really lovin' this version, too. This is one of those toys that looks so goddamn good in repetition. The paints separate them all into their own category, despite sharing the same form factor. I'm also very much appreciating the release schedule. Not too many, but not so few and far between that you miss it. I'm glad he's been sticking with this tote bag packaging, and I am *really* likin' this printed rubber ball he packed in with this release. And as Taimur mentioned, and I photographed, Godesu holds it perfectly in its hands! Spoiler
I caught the homage. It makes me think this toy might actually wear very beautifully the same way Astron gets some extra oomph when the flesh base peeks through some areas. Whether any Godesu will reach even a light level of wear with us obsessives keeping guard over them, I don't know, but it'll be cool to see if any are floating around a decade or more from now. Also, @xSuicide Squadx--did you get him balancing on one leg and the tail?!
@zindabad A pink Gorilla appears to have run off with your thick plastic tote bag - I hope you catch him
@The Moog I Iook the "pink gorilla" comment to mean my hairy arm in the photo, found that to be a funny jab and decided to jab you back, after liking your post to let you know that I didn't actually find it offensive. Sorry if I misinterpreted your first post.
