Lookin' mighty fine. I can't wait to see all the imaginative paint schemes and classic tributes I am sure are to come. The details and sculpt on this fella, a favourite kaiju who has never been displaced, lend themselves so well to the type of fun these toys should embody.
that is my favorite Gyango sculpt. I tried to capture that while sticking with Rampage esthetic Oh doy... that's the new one... hahh, it's mine. I was thinking of the big standard sized sculpt from ... Is it Yamanaya, or maybe even yamomark?
Beautiful Bwana! That is just what I had in mind, you got it. A perfect example of the right collab, you nailed it on Jon's great sculpt. And yep, you are likely thinking of the Yamanaya [technically under the banner of Tsuburaya Productions] figure in terms of larger recent releases of standard size. This was preceded by the '84 Bandai series iteration in a very similar scheme (one of those toys which, I will take this opportunity to highlight once more, is originally what drew me into the world of kaiju monsters way back when). Spoiler: Photos of non-Rampage toys The big guy, And the sort of OG Both of which, of course, closely parallel his on-screen appearance,
Yamanaya!* I know the Canadian already attended to that issue, but I wasn't about to give up an excuse to repost these snaps o' mine. Wanna know a secret, Mr. Spoons ? I'm kind of afraid that I might like your sculpt more than I like the fella in the center. I feel all funny inside. * Although their first release of him was done when they were still calling themselves Tsuburaya Communications.
Just Amazing! Love this Gyango so much. I only own the buta version of this character but i feel I'lll eventually have an army of RT/BS Gyango's to help keep & water my crop of Prenutes
My first thought upon seeing the shot above yesterday was, “Bwana was definitely studying the Yamanaya sculpt when he did this.” (Obviously, JMR’s paint job made it readily apparent, as well.) The sculptural equivalent of a great cover version of a song- it does completely right by the original while being wonderful and strong all on its own. Too fucking cool!
Ungawa222 and Toothaction. Thanks, yes, Was looking at my Gyango Collection with the Yamanaya one front and center. That Gyango was the only thing I ever waited in a line to buy like the true nerd that I am, when it came out. 12 years ago? 15 years ago?
Never got one but always admired this toy. Now I know why I’ve waited. This scuplt is totally balls out
Hey Bwana and or @Jon - Does the new fella have that signature patch o' blue all up his backside? I surely do hope so!
Wow, almost 19 years. Maybe second trip to Japan? Just a young lad, I rememebr it was a hard decision as I had saved up all my nickels to buy vintage Microman Toothaction- I bet Jon did put that back spray all up in there
Hey hey! Happy for the excitement! I’m doing the Wonfes initial run of 50 figures, then offering another batch online at the end of February - with the same paint application. Admittedly, I don’t intend to always go balls out on this kind of brushwork paintwork with every release, but I just couldn’t help myself for the first release. Blue backside for sure kids!
