Other influences are NOT limited to, but also might Include... The fleshy headed toy killer robot from Asylum (1972). Although Sparkman is purely mechanical, these fleshy headed robots in this movie freaked me out as a child! Maybe a little Max Headroom too.
The body's design takes me back to one of my favorite childhood toys...The Technodrome. It's not a bad thing by any means. Great job with this figure.
For sure this year. The wax was slightly delayed but it's on schedule. The molds are probably in the works as we speak, should have a test shot soon. Really hoping to have it to display at Summer Slime in July!
For some reason, the Instagram links don’t work for me on here, but I do not at all understand how this hasn’t been shown off/discussed here as of yet. This will be on display, as well as some one offs Paul’s said he’ll be bringing with to DCon. Cannot wait to see this villain of vestige in hand!!!
Links don’t work for me either @xSuicide Squadx ! But yessss, he’s going to be a fun little figure to see
Love this. Straight out of 60's scifi. The red accent on the chest is adds so much subtle detail. Can't wait to see pics of it compared to other PK toys just for size comparison.
This is just a test shot. I intend many different versions. Sparkman is 12" tall and will include 2 alternate parts, closed manipulator "paw" and rocket booster "plug". "" The antenna I originally sculpted were too long and thin and stretched or tore when pulled. A new set of improved antenna are in Japan being waxed for new molds. I will have a few for Designercon 2017 with hand crafted antenna in Brass. The header is complete and at the printer (Melissa took my sketches and KILLED it retro style!) and first of the Sparkmen should be released early 2018. I would say having lost 2 sculpts in the Grody fire I feel pretty lucky to have had Sparkman and Boss 2.0 on the side. It's unfortunate for the other makers who lost much more, not to mention the mass amount of recovery work Luke has before him (Like I said too. Can't sculpt another of our Luke!). I will be considering other ways to resurrect Boss Charged for 2018. Like Melissa has told me, "The universe just didn't want him made." Onward and upward.
For those that couldn't attend DesignerCon this year, Paul had a selection of hand-painted Sparkman figures at the event. I was lucky enough to take photos of everything before the hordes descended, so those interested can check out pics (with some ramblings by me) here: https://coartmag.com/news/exhibition-report/paulkaiju-designercon-2017/
@trustpigs Top-notch recap & beautiful pics (yet again). Between the descriptive sculpt/paint details & history/backstories of the figures, never a beat is missed. Keep up the solid work!
Thanks, but — as Robert pointed out — Melissa did the art and logo; I just moved them around a bit from the header card. Thanks so much, Sam! It's a lot of work, but I'm thrilled it's appreciated.
@trustpigs Top notch reporting and coverage, my dude. Fantastic read, and very in depth! Much appreciated for the time and effort!!!
