Well, not technically original, but the best I can do for the moment. Some of my favourite Godzilla sculpts are the ones by Popy, and I don't think they get enough love around here. So I took some time to take some photos of the re-issues I have, and thought I would post some here. It took me a while to track these guys down, and I just love them. Both of these are the Hyper Hobby releases from a few years back. They also came in a matching Super Hobby TV colour scheme, with these ones being the magazine versions. I really love these guys. Vintage collectors will note the large scale is painted after the original giant version, and conversely the giant scale reissue is done after the early large version. The large scale guy came packaged with a mini omake of Godzilla in fighting pose. Can't say enough how much the crude sculpt, proportions, and paint all come together to make an delightful toy. Really, very nice versions of ol' Goji that strike a perfect balance between movie monster and loveable fun guy. Popy Giant Scale reissue Popy Large Scale reissue The family shot for comparison:
I did a thread like this awhile back: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=38032&hilit=popy+baragon Incidentally I'll have a real Popy Baragon to add to the mix in a week or so...
Nice, sorry, I missed that thread Lixx. I knew there was the King Zaurus one, but wanted to have one for the other Popy lines as well. Your collection is killer man. Speaking of which, is there anything that you don't have covered on some level?
Hey there's always room for more threads AND TOYS....As far characters from shows that I'd still like to get into my collection? Yeah I don't own any Flying Attack Human, Lion Maru, Astro Mu, Mazinger, Barom 1, Godman, Triton of the Sea, or Condorman. I'd like to get some of those, especially Flying Attack Human.
Boo! C'mon, Chris--keep vintage in the Vintage board! (Mainly 'cause I'm too lazy to click on the Your Collection board! )
@Matty - you can read all about it here. The figures are just a small range, so it is an achievable goal. @Lixx - I think Sanjeev meant he can't be arsed to check forums other than vintage, which is why he (and I) didn't see your orginal thread, and who can blame him? This place needs more traditional kaiju representin'! And just 'cause I am here, here is some more Popy (non-KZ) love I really need to do a combined shot with all my heroes.
That's exactly right, Steve! Anyway, other than shitloads of diecast, most of my Popy vinyl is in the form of mini robots (which I *DO* need to photograph soemtime!). And other than those guys, I think I just have the Godzilla's Gang King Joe and Windam, and the original giant (well...11" or whatever he is) Godzilla.
Great shots. I haven't actually seen that Kanegon before, he looks sweet. I have one of the KZ Earthtrons, but he is in light blue/grey vinyl. Don't have a picture right now, but this is him here:
I just have two, this Baragon that just arrived: Popy Baragon by Beautification Syndrome, on Flickr And this Gigasu: Popy Gigasu by Beautification Syndrome, on Flickr Incidentally don't overpay for Popy! I was watching a Baragon auction on ebay shoot up and end at $137.50 the other night. Someone spent way too much. I found mine on YJA for $40 after middle man fees. Most of the small king zaurus line can be had cheap.
Damn, another Gigas Lixx? Save some for the rest of us! xo This guy looks really sweet, was he another YJA find?
I'm a big Jirass fan. So many great toys of him in various wacky colors out there. I love these. Also, that Baragon is the same basic color scheme as an old Zaninga from Megaloman that I had as a kid.
