Every year I see SDCC pics, and every year I think the same thing to myself. It just looks like one big clusterfuck. Besides why not go to the motherland of toys?

Oh and I'm the only one sick of one off/ hand paints? Whatever happened to runs? Seems to me a lot of toy companies are going that route just to jack prices.

I don't know, are there companies doing only HPs? It seems like most of the companies I follow do a handful of "run" releases which are supplemented with HPs, one offs, etc. I mean, Super7 had at least 20 different SDCC exclusive releases not even counting unpainted variants, etc. which I think is pretty impressive. Gargamel had plenty of standard releases too. I think we just hear more about customs and one-offs because between the exclusivity, cost, and how impressive they usually are, they give people more bragging rights to say, "look what I got!" or conversely, "man I want that".

I definitely agree the the cost of some of these figures can be prohibitively exorbitant even considering how labored and beautiful some of the paint jobs are, but I like that they afford more creative license to toy creators to do artistic things they couldn't pull off in a larger run. I also think one-offs help keep this collecting niche alive by encouraging people to attend shows and meet/support creators and other collectors by offering things that have to be scored in person. Plus I've always hoped, though have no evidence, that expensive HPs etc. somehow afford companies to keep costs of production runs lower.

I think we'll hit market saturation pretty soon (if we haven't already) . . . it was cool though, I got away with spending literally $20 at Gargamel (on someone else's behalf!).

I was a little disappointed the booth based it's entire weekend on customs and unpainted pocket size (glad again that they don't interest me. With so many sculpts I can see them dropping a ton of releases).

S7 and Fig-Lab/RxH seemed to have a nice balanced mix of both with something for everyone!

last year we complained there wasn't enough Gargamel customs. This year we got our wish with more customs than any of us could afford to purchase.

but I too wish there was more regular, painted releases this year.

Pure geek b0ner material. Nice. Bet G4 didn't broadcast this!

Reminds me that I was going to start an erotic kaiju fan fiction thread. I'll get started on an erotic SDCC fan fiction thread too. Cool right?!
"...I couldn't believe it, but Michelle... Michelle "Queens Blade" Gallagher, asked me to have lunch with her at the Tilted Kilt. Missing the opening of the cos-play ball was alright, in light of being close to Michelle. Her long red hair, slightly-fat-but-not-unattractive-arms, skin smelling slightly of patchouli oils, her scrumptious ample heaving bosom, and the way she carried a broadsword everywhere she went. My dream!"

Seems Shikaruna went that route? I loved when they did small runs, now not so much. I'm not saying all one offs suck, just if that's all the company is doing, it somehow throws my collector sense off. I like runs. I like knowing there are more than one of something out there, especially if I'm looking for it. Also I think if a company just does one offs it ends up looking like a ton of experimental paint jobs gone wrong. Focus on finding ones that work and make a small run....One of the many reasons M1 will never leave my heart.
