You should just get what you like. Bob Roberts did a Godzilla back piece in japanese style in 79. so just saying..
That's not fair. It's really hard to read your blog with all the pretty pictures. Thanks for posting them though. I will admit, I am a jerk.
Are you sure about the Bob Roberts Godzilla suit? I know Mike Malone did one on a guy here in the ATX. Check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wd55BQKRmik Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Ed Hardy participate in the festival like 20 years ago? Which negates Barth's claim of being the "first westerner"... You NorCal folks need to hit state of grace in San Jose for authenticity.
im 90% positive on bob roberts suit. It was in a book at the shop I used to work at and I'll have them take a look and maybe scan it. It is quite possible that it would be Mike Malone as well. I don't think I would get tattooed at State of Grace above Black Heart, Tattoo City, Sword and Skull or Whatever Adrian lee calls New Skool now. Although if SHige ever takes up residency there I would be there in a heart beat.
New Skool is now Analog, I keep wanting to plan a trip to san jose just to go there. Funny I was about to post about Adrian when I saw the San Jose post. http://www.analogtattoo.com/
Although I like Adrian Lee's work I don't like the whole "manifesto" & "members" part of it. IT'S A FUCKING TATTOO SHOP! He still has a stellar line up though. Also big shame San Jose lost Adam barton. I would have really liked to get tattooed by him.
Horimana got a couple pages of that book. They used his sleeves for the Juxtapose ad. (this is validation for my expensive habit) I say State of Grace b/c he imported an Irezumi artist from the Horiyoshi family. Speaks little English but can tattoo like nobody's business. Tim Lehi is no slouch either....
What do you want he's got the whole "kollective" thing from the past too. lol The guy makes it a bit too serious on that whole edge but his work is amazing and Ron's biomech stuff is legendary. I still need to pick up bloodwork.
I once met a guy who had a sleeve of aaron cain and a sleeve of earhart. Earharts was honestly better although the cain sleeve was from the mid 90's.
I wish aaron was still tattooing, but from what I've seen ron's work has progressed beyond it, especially the stuff in full coverage. I've never seen any aaron's work in person though.
yeah, wow, that's pretty hot shit! Interested to see how it looks in a couple years, if it keeps it's vibrancy.
It's pretty fresh, the pic was taken right after i finished. I wouldn't see a problem with the color holding up over a couple of years. It may seem like lots of detail, but also consider the size of the tattoo. It is almost half of his leg.
Those were my sentiments after the left arm . . . then the right arm . . . then the back . . . then the . . .
