I'm actually digging the Troopers again now that the hype has subsided and they're reasonable. Really liked the Mizaru (Ape) ones, even though I was unable to get one. I'm really liking the new ones from SF 48. The non clears remind me of Space 1999 spacesuits and the Pink GID painted is top notch material.
I think that new, secret red version is my favorite so far. There's something I really like about the gun being black on this one. Here's hoping to scoring the new ones.
So, I was at my buddy, Doc's house last Friday night. After some greasy pizza and a very long work week, neither of us were feeling particularly energetic. Especially after watching the Celts lose to the friggin' Cavs. We relaxed in front of the tube and lo' and behold: the late night cable gods blessed us with John Carpenter's They Live. Granted, it's fairly common gift from the late night cable gods...much like any Van Damme movie. Anyway, we settled into watching this movie for the thousandth time...when something clicked. It was so DAMN obvious! The aliens, minus the hair, look exactly like the Space Troopers (the first head sculpt, anyway)! Uncanny, no? I don't know exactly why, but for some reason, this really pleases me!
I dunno Sanjeev....I was kinda thinkin' you might be over thinkin' this comparison..... I'd feel better if you said you came to this realization after OD'ing on some kind of unhealthy snackfood. Carry on....
Huh... Well now that ya mention it, Doc did bake up a batch of seven layer bars...and we did watch the movie through the subsequent diabetic haze... But I still stand by my observation.
Has anyone picked up these yet? I kinda like the second one, but they seem expensive at KT for single figures.
I like the burning iron version too (second one). KT is probably, what $20 higher than I expected? The Toygraph Matangos, about the same size, went for around $90. BTW, the Toygraph Matangos are amazing, much stronger sculpt in my opinion though I still like this one.
the fact that the red vinyl is clear heightens the cool factor, and the appeal of the paintjob overall - but these still solidly fall below my expectation of $70+ toys. At that price, I'd rather buy a 2nd hand SK or older/rarer M1go something-or-other
great observation - im totally with u! but then its one of my favorite movies, maybe we wanna see what pleases us. anyway wouldnt be the first desigenr/artist being inspired by they live shepard fairey´s main slogan OBEY[giant] was taken from it as well...
I have to say...I'm done with these cans. I want to toss them, but the pack rat in me won't allow it. They take up too much damn room!
Truuuuuu...but I'm pretty confident about this one. There're just too many similarities to ignore! And not to piss in your Cheerios, but they (Hollywood) is remaking They Live. Please just shoot me in the face when you get a chance... Anyway, for the record, the Natarl figure above (from Battle in Outer Space) is standard scale (8.2") according to KT. So, the price isn't that unreasonable.
The new Death 13 heads look crazy! (These are "limited" to 80 each...) The paint job on the new saucer looks terrible.
I think I like the new trooper. Sort of a c-3PO-gone-berserk look to the head. I'll have to pick up the bloody one to go with my other bloody toygraph toys. And yeah, saucer isn't looking so hot.
