Nice to see an old thread revival. Here's an unpainted and painted pink. This was a Max Toy x Clap Monster collaboration/release The pictures are from way back
Nice!! I would love to stumble upon a blank pink one day.. this thread deserves some more action! Who else has one (or more) of these guys on their shelves?
Excellent! Now that's how you do a "bad" monster/paint. Unlike the clueless, actual bad paint I've been seeing on this board lately.
Good "bad" paint - like your grandpa/grandma/uncle/aunty grabbed an airbrush and painted something that they thought would look nice Bad "bad" paint - like someone who collected McFarlane Toys grabbed an airbrush and tried to make their sofubi monster look badass
Yessirry -- I believe the one on the left is a chase version from its run. I found some info about it on the CKA blog years ago.
The one on the left actually looks decent. The one on the right im not digging so much. It almost feels like they kind of just slopped it together and decided to paint a one eyed smiley face as a last ditch effort for aesthetics. Germs actually looks like the better painted pink version lol.
Were any other dolls put out under Clap Monsters Brand? I was told years ago the line was made by Yoda but never knew for sure. I always doubted that since, if true why not just pop out as Longneck? Very underrated Kaiju either way and they look great along side with the dolls of Longneck. I always wanted the Army man green versions but never got one.
I used to own the blue with silver accents release, picked it from Rotofugi I believe. I let go of it in a purge and certainly regret it. A great chunky toy with loads of personality.
I seem to remember this one being pretty unpopular when it came out years and years ago, when everyone wanted TEH VINTAGE STYLE PAINTZ. Looking at it now against Cosmo Knight Alpha's catalog of Majin figures and his love for outlandish paint work, this Zaran seems more like the beginning of his current toy production arc versus being a weird one-time release for Clap Monsters. I still have mixed feelings about whether it is a great toy, but the little faces painted in the folds make me smile. The one on the back of Zaran's neck is almost Bemon-esque, particularly with the spine painted to look like yellow vomit/drool coming from the face.
This is exactly how I feel about this toy. Without a close study I love it and instantly want to buy more. But with a little closer examination I am very content with just having the one. There is something very charming about it but also it’s very clear something is missing. I do love the paints like you have and prefer them, I think they add a lot to those “missing” sculptural elements.
