I recently picked up the guy with the bumpy back, let's call him Allosaurus. When he arrived, I noticed how different yet the same he was to the other two I had, let's call them T. rex. They are blow-molded and stand 23cm tall. The appear to have been made from the same basic sculpt with some modifications to all parts. I also noticed that one T. rex has heel spurs while the other does not. So they were all obviously made by the same company, but one of the T. rex had his feet switched with the Allosaurus. Love the red sprays. There are probably other paint spray variations and I would love to see one MIB. Enjoy.
@Mark K thank you for sharing this magnificent comparison photo, those little details are what make collecting so pleasant. When you fall in love with the sculpture of a piece, it is what you always try to find; the variants. I have seen some of these dinosaurs at auctions, but I had never noticed the small differences.
@Mark K I want to get involved in that pachi dino conga line. I am going to use the shrink ray and photoshop myself into one of those pics.
An unexpected, but welcome, recent vintage pickup: Marushin Gorgosaurus. I've long admired the example in @Mark K 's collection, and feel lucky to now have one in my hands for some close-up examination. This one is in 'scale' with the small size Marushin dinos. The paint is still vibrant and mostly unscuffed, which is unusual considering that this was purchased loose. I've always thought that the Marushins have wonderful color schemes, and Gorgosaurus is no exception.
Incredible find and nice pictures of your gorgosaur too, @akum6n. I don't recall seeing this one before, but I'll have to look back. The condition really is kind of mind-blowing. Congratulations on your lil holiday miracle.
10 years later, enter Planet-X-Asia. I cannot help but say it again - I am plum happy that there’s life in the old photo bucket images again.
Congratulations for the score Mark, I really like the lizard aspect of these figures gives them a certain charm.
Added a green variant to the guys discussed here: DINOS! DINOS DINOS! Has the same body and feet as some of the brown examples but, sorry it does not show in the photos, different arms. Love the back sprays. All different. They look so much better in natural lights but its too cold and windy today for that.
Really interesting, thanks for sharing Mark. What a lineup!! I am sure the colours are just amazing in person, especially in natural light, The green variant looks similar to me to the far left brown one. Such subtle changes, really fascinating.
This just arrived today. New "Showa Dinosaur Encyclopedia". Haven't had an in depth look at it yet but covers printed matter, records, keshi, hard plastic and sofubi. The page with the ARK dinos alone is worth it to me. https://www.amazon.co.jp/日本昭和トンデモ恐竜大全-タツミムック-田村-博/dp/4777827526
Looks awesome! Did you order directly from Amazon JP? A long time ago they used to ship books to the US.
