Yeah, that figure was a fast seller at Five Points. I love mine and it was fun learning about the history behind the design: View this post on Instagram
Nice! Extra Spicy version! There are already SO many colorways, I can't even keep track at this point. I think think some of the best have actually been the marbling versions because how details trap the lighter color pours and create so much depth. Another Sunguts figure that isn't getting near enough love IMO XXX-LA? Or Mememera? I'm not even sure it's a new figure. I only recently saw it. Normally I roll my eyes at figures that are provocative just for the sake of being edgy. But, I don't feel that's what Sunguts does. It's usually more innocent and silly, so I like it. This one, in particular, makes me think of a stack of nude paintings exposed to radioactive waste and mutated into a titty kaiju.
Are Fetish Mode and Sunguts one in the same, like Hukkokudo and Target Earth? If so, this is something I’ve never been aware of! But the XXX - LA has been out and available for quite some time. 2007 or 2008, maybe?
I have no idea! Not much else comes up when I search for "fetish mode" toys. But that doesn't mean anything. Wow! I had no idea. Amazing I've missed it all this time. Certainly not a toy that would be easily forgotten
Yes, my understanding has been that they are the same company. He made a few other figures under the line, but most have been out of production for a while.
Yep, XXX-LA (Mememe-La) is definitely by Sunguts. I have the unpainted clear hot-pink version. I'm pretty sure there was at least one other toy produced under his Fetish brand. I seem to remember it was a woman wearing rubber, and a gas mask. Here's some info from the Encyclopedia of Kaiju about xxx-la: Debuted: 2008, Height: 20cm. Designed and molded to be a kind of trompe l'oeil of a naked female body. The figure was made for a particular event, but the event was cancelled. Its called Mememe-LA, written XXX-LA because the katakana character for 'Me' looks a bit like an X, and XXX is a symbol for adult entertainment items. X is also used in place of an asterisk to denote unprintable material. The kanji for woman is also read 'Me', as is the character for 'Eye', and that can symbolize the nipple. The 'La' is added to make the figure more kaiju-like.
He sold some of those and some of the Sunguts boob-headed figures several years ago at a fetish convention in Japan. Blobpus had stuff there, too. They may've shared a table; can't recall the exact details.
Man the Sunguts kraken are hard to come by. Think I’ve got about half of them now. There are a few so elusive I’ve never even seen them for sale. If there’s anyone who hits up the events regularly, I’m more than happy to pay a decent finder’s fee to get my hands on them. Over the last few years I’ve had to cut back on collecting but I’ll splurge something awful for a kraken!
