Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Custom Pocket Zagoran: 9/3 That's why the S-Taiin is so hard to get!!! You have all of them!!
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: WIP Stuff: 9/18 edit: rude comment redacted — thanks for the clarification, kurumonz!
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: WIP Stuff: 9/18 I think a clarification is in order. Dustin certainly wasn't hoarding any S-taiins. They were sent to him to be customized. By "landing" he meant that they will be shipped out soon. I was lucky to get a sneak peek at those and they're amazing!
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: WIP Stuff: 9/18 Awww, dammit...I missed the rude comment. If it makes you feel any better, I still don't have a milky S-Taiin of my own.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: WIP Stuff: 9/18 ^^ Read quickly that looks like "milky stain".... ewww Good work on the little spacemen! They look sharp! Phil
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: More Spacemen: 9/20 They look great. Well done. My favorite part about this toy is the goofy, happy/excited look on his face.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: WIP Stuff: 9/18 i guess it wasn't rude as much as it was sympathizing with those who have been struggling to get a hold of one while it appeared that you were hoarding. i've since been edumacated that that's not the case besides, if i didn't know any better, i would have thought that these toys were your own creation because the paint work on these are fantastic! you really bring out the inner-child-joy expressions perfectly.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: More Spacemen: 9/20 Thanks, man. You know, if I were gonna hoard these I would have bought as many as I could at SDCC. Instead, I bought one, couldn't resist painting it, and then passed it along to another collector. Since then, a couple of awesome board members have given me theirs to paint for them. Knowing how tough they are to come by, I am truly flattered that these folks want me to paint on them. This sculpt, for me, is a joy to work on. It's got everything a fun, little spaceman should have; awesome helmet, raygun, tanks on his back, goofy smile, etc. It's such a refreshing break from the stuff I've been painting that I kind of get lost while working on them...it's easy to forget that it's only a pocket-sized figure. BIG TIME! If anybody out there wants to help me increase my "hoard" of SDCC Pocket S-Taiins to "1" feel free to PM me.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: More Spacemen: 9/20 I've had this GID Beetlar for a while and I finally got around to painting him. It took me a while to figure out where I should place the dots on this one in order to achieve the effect I wanted. I backed up the dots with just a hint of blue and gave him pink eyes. Hope you like it, thanks for looking.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Kirby Krackle Beetlar: 9/29 Amazing work as usual Dustin! Almost a shading effect with the placement of the dots.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Kirby Krackle Beetlar: 9/29 Here's my take on an Odoron. I tried to work with the opaque black base to create more of an ominous feel for this guy...like a cold, angry sea coming to destroy everything in its path. I used some pearlescent blues, silvers, and whites (along with the base color) to get the effect I was going for. Being so monochromatic, it took me a while to get the balance and contrast I wanted. I think it's there now but I'm sure you guys will let me know if it isn't. Hope you like it, thanks for looking.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Angry Sea Odoron: 10/8 That's really nice Dustin. I like how you created a sense of depth (deeper depth?!) by darkening the valleys of the sculpt. Best Odoron I've seen yet.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Angry Sea Odoron: 10/8 Thanks, Sokko. As much as I like the painted clear blue and clear green releases, I can't help but think of flavors of mouthwash when I look at them. I wanted mine to be darker and more intimidating and I felt that the opaque black vinyl would help me get there. The tension in the sculpt is really what does it for me on this figure. There's a lot of movement in the limbs and in the crests of all the little waves. I tried my best to emphasize those elements while still keeping within my limited "stormy sea" palette. Glad you like it.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: Angry Sea Odoron: 10/8 More GID, more dots. I gave this one some spattery sprays in hopes that it would punch up the "energy" effect I was going for.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: G&G Set: 10/25 With Halloween just around the corner, I decided that now would be the time to paint up my G&G set. I went for a "realistic" look on the little dude's armor, drybrushing up through various silvers to get it where I wanted. The big guy has various blues and silvers and his "belly-face" glows in the dark. Hope you guys like 'em.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: G&G Set: 10/25 ^^ Stunning. Love this set painted up, as always great work.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: G&G Set: 10/25 nicely ruined ...wait - these were supposed to be costumized. i like small dude better than big one, but colors and quality of paintjob absolutely fxxking impressive. still a mystery to me where you get your inspriations from... great job man!!!
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: G&G Set: 10/25 Thanks for the comments, guys! I'm glad you like them. I should add, if anybody is interested in adding these dudes to their collection please feel free to shoot me a PM.
Re: Dustin's Ultra-Thread: G&G Set: 10/25 Wow Dustin! That G&G set is superb! I really dig the "realistic" approach you did with these two. Nice work man!
