Out of curiosity does anyone have any pictures of the Super7 vintage metal cases? After some searches on google and Ebay I was unable to find any. Just interested in what they looked like and how much space they offered.

@PinkEye Morrison they didn't sell them. They were used in the store to display toys for sale and past Super7 releases. They might have sold them to locals when they moved though..?

Oh okay, gotcha. Thanks for the info, that would explain why nothing came up. I can imagine they were probably crazy heavy.

I can't quite remember, but I think there were 3 metal display cases towards the back of the S7 store, when it still was in Japantown. The cases held all of these mesmerizing vintage toys, and once I saw those toys, I was hooked on Kaiju. I think my first kaiju was a Vintage Amazon rider and Leafman, which bankrupted me in one day :). Those cases were lockable, and I think they were put up for sale when the store moved. You had to pick them up. If they weren't so heavy and large, they would've been mine!

Put this up yesterday to give it some color.
Edit: Kanegon is just visiting while I rearrange the other cases.

Starting to load my toys into the new shelves, but I don't like the gray backdrop panel that came with the cases. The toys don't really "pop" out at you, but sort of dissolve into the gray. My friend suggested using blue contractors tape, remove the shelves, and just spray the background panels white or a lighter color. All 3 cases are hung on the wall right now, and I'd rather not take them down and drill bigger holes to rehang them later. The other option is to cut and paste contact paper to the back panel. Not sure where to go from here, might try the later option. Spraying is messy.
p.s. Yellow-head versions are on the bottom, orange-heads are on top

I would find it extremely difficult to work in that room. I'd keep playing with the toys, and then run over to see if I could get MORE toys on the interwebes!

^^^Well I'm the sole survivor of my family. I did tell my house minder/carpenter friend, to be sure not to box up all the toys and send them to the Goodwill when I finally "leave". He appreciates how "collectible" they are (and is rather afraid to touch the toys on the shelves :)) and really thinks the toys are "cool". He likes the buta best so far (hasn't seen GID yet!). Poor Chris was #1 on the list, so now that leaves the "approved" inheritors to Stevie/ @ultrakaiju , Roger/ @Alebrije , and Jeremy/ @jojo the dog faced boy ) ;) (you guys better book-mark this post to serve as an informal testamentary document ;)). What's really ironic is that all of the Toygraph Racers, Buta, Vintage, and an instant humongous collection of GID (which i still have not opened--the "giant" box ), probably amounts to a tidy sum these days. I would like to see the collection of each toymaker type stay intact, but have no idea how to "deed" them yet. Perhaps a morbid thought for now, but we all have to think about the inevitable in the end. In the meantime, I do LOVE those toys, not so much as an investment, but really happy colorful eye candy! They really cheer me up when I see them, and yes, I do take them out and play with them.

I've had to take all the toys out of the shelf and re-think the arrangement. Basically there are tons of buta, and they all don't fit in the upstairs case, so I'm asking my carpenter to add shelves to the three long vertical shelf set (hung side by side), to double the shelf space (I can fit 3 rows of buta per shelf for the long narrow case, so if he adds extra shelves all evenly spaced, it might fit all the buta in the 3-case set). I can also "wall paper" the dull gray background with something more cheerful, to accent the toys. Once I put out all the buta, that leaves all the vintage, all the racers, miscellaneous happy toys I adopted because I like them (which is quite a lot!), and over 50 GID toys. Not sure what to do with those yet! :D

p.s. seeing all the toys strewn about and all the full boxes remaining to be unpacked, has given me a reality jolt of sorts, so now I'm focusing my collecting and being more finicky (yea right!)

Lots left to unpack, but here's my work-in-progress display at the new place. I got an Ikea Fjallbo shelf and three 8"x8"x12" acrylic risers to free up some extra space. The plan is to get some shorter risers on the second shelf as well, and put up a second set of shelves, either floating or mounted to a desk.

For those of you in the market for new cases (yes, I have too many toys!), I recently paid a visit to Ikea, and saw this great new display case. Milsbo has locking doors, so pets can't pry open the door and create mayhem (or barf out your toys, as with magnetic closed door latches, in the event of an earthquake--don't forget to anchor the case to the wall!). The frame is all metal and better than detolfs because the frame encases the panels entirely (unlike the detolfs, which have big gaps on the edges which lets dust in more readily). The price is decent, $199 for a large case! It seems pretty sturdy on the show-room floor. Max load per shelf is 11 lbs. I bought one, but it's sitting in the basement awaiting assembly. If it works out, I'd like to buy 2 more to make a wall of cases.

p.s. I should add that this isn't a "sturdy" heavy case. It's definitely still on the "delicate" side, so it needs to be treated as such. Sturdier than a detolf, but not as strong as a Fabrikor. I almost bought three Fabrikors, but the Milsbo probably stores just as much toys as 2 to 2.5 Fabrikors, except it takes up less floor foot-print size.

I liked the "Anthracite" color. It also comes in white:

There was a whole new group of tall display case styles when I went there (they didn't show up in the paper catalog), so have fun browsing. Don't forget to measure the area at your house where you want the display cases to go, so you can figure out if you need 1, 2, 3 or more! The dimensions of Ikea stuff is on the label, which means you don't have to drag a measuring tape with you! You'll need a truck for the Milbos (it comes in TWO boxes! One for metal framing and one for glass panels), since the glass panels will be too long for a car. Have fun and eat some Swedish meatballs for me! :)

saw these in person the other day. Nice case for sure, but knowing that id need more than one the $199 price tag was a turn off to me, and i decided to go with the exposed shelving for now. guess ill have to keep up with my dusting.

Ahh, no real way I can get that one home then. I might try for the taller Fabrikor or something. But I'll really be cramming the new shelf in, barely any floor space in my room as it is
