Thanks for the history lesson! I also found his blog with a backshot of what looks like the same sculpt but with red instead of silver feet, http://hxsaigansho.blog.fc2.com/ I wonder if it's yet to be announced 0.0

Similar to Grace's post of the missile-firing Red Baron from page 1 of this thread, I was researching on aucfan and found this sealed standard-size Bullmark Gojira sold for ~100K JPY in 2010 (tiny archive photo!):

There was a similar auction in January that sold for 464K JPY, which is a huge jump:

The two figures have different Bullmark header cards, and the second one has a paper insert as well. Any insights on the headers or price difference, as they both look like silver-coated gojis on blue/green vinyl, or has the market just jumped up that much in the last seven years?

Pffftt I have a few of those lying around the house, along with a missle firing Red Baron! These auctions are silly! I don't get it.

I hope everyone sees what I did there and doesn't think I'm being a smarty pants! Of course I have none of the aforementioned toys, but one can dream.

Yes, it is silly Mr. Smarty Pants! Why waste 3 grand when you can buy the one off Mandarake for less than $300. Who ever bought the Mandarake one is one smart cookie.

I don't get it either. Even though the paint is shiny, there are a lot of rubs for a $3,500 toy.
$300 or so is where these usually price out.
I think there is something fishy with that auction.
Not purple: I will have to check mine at home to see what kind of condition it is in.

Its a beauty but yeah shocking price.. I hope its not going to up the base price on the bigger kaiju.

I was following that one up into the last hour and the price was hovering around 90000yen or so fairly late in the game. I thought that was a somewhat reasonable price given the condition and today's crazy prices..didn't expect it to jump that much in the last few minutes.

And yes @scobot agreed...I have been able to get some pretty pristine examples of Bullmark giants for a fraction of that price recently, that would royally suck for this to become the new norm.

That Gomora auction went bonkers for sure. And here I was foolish enough to spend time watching it. I mean, it is one gorgeous toy, he does have some really nice paint, and - for me - there is nothing better than the 'wear' spots of flesh showing through like that on the hands and nose (ah, blue and skin, the best combo). But really, the price is just going way out there. There have definitely been other versions for sale for a fraction of the price (as evidenced exactly above), so I don't know. I guess a couple people were really after this particular one then or something. That is a hefty investment for any toy, so for something that isn't extremely rare or anything, I hope this was all about passion for it, and not something to indicate a gauge of pricing for the future.

Grace, get of YJA!!! Hahaha. I was really hoping that the pachi Gomora might get less attention or end a little lower. Out of my price league at that rate and I still think a bit high for what it was, but I cannot fault anyone for spending that on him either, he is so lovely. Great variation in colours. Surprisingly one of those 'not-very-pachi' pachis (even down to the choice of paint).

Haha...the only information that I can provide is that ¥1.4M is bullshit for that toy! LOL Until not long ago, they wouldn't break half that...

Anyway, it's not even THAT great of a toy. I mean, it *is* a gorgeous rendering of Mekanda, but it's not officially a Jumbo Machinder and it's only about 18 inches (45cm) tall.

Ouch, did this one hurt. And I mean to the point of almost actually being in tears over a silly toy, such is the desperation of a toy addict. When I tell you though that Kurumonz, master collector that he is, spend 11 years hunting down the grey version of this fella though, perhaps you can understand how to me, it is a real 'grail' of collecting. I have loved it since I first saw it, and will not cease to chase it, even if, like Ahab, it seems such an unreasonable goal. So this one hurt. And not because I lost, but because my circumstances changed this week and I just couldn't even bid,.

Anyways, without further sobbing, I offer the GID version of Bearmodel's giant Ultraman, at a whopping 70-72cm (feel free to send me one, and I will verify the exact height in person). And is he a beauty. The seller didn't know anything about it, and had it listed only as 'Ultraman', so, possibly as a result, it went unnoticed by some. Another factor in the end price I don't doubt is that the auction didn't have the auto-extension feature, so when it ended, it ended; get your bids in! I would so happily have thrown all my monies his way. A comparable bargain to one Joe shared here back in November (108k ¥‎ , see below). Oh well, here he is, please relish in the glory, for I know I will.

@ultrakaiju I think Chris must be crying too, unless he's the lucky winner.
I think the other factor that influenced the price was that; The seller is relatively new only had three transactions, positive by the way, but some of the companies that we use as intermediaries to buy at YJP do not allow to bet on auctions of sellers with a low raiting.
Good luck in the hunt Steve!

My experience tells me that a true grail takes a.) one decade of proper daily searching, b.) one or more broken hearts via YJA c.) full exhaustion of all friends' and vendors' patience and d.) available credit on your plastic.

C'mon, this is a Bear Model, not a Marusan. Cheer up, @ultrakaiju, you're due!

    Cheers

Super whimsical toy.... This reminds me of those wooden toys I had as a kid--animals or some puppet made out of wood that had beads for joints, and would bend when you pushed the pedestal with your thumb....

Translated description is "Lotte Magma Ambassador Fu Senghum", made in 1965. Apparently it's battery operated, but not sure about it--the description just says the battery isn't included in the auction, but it might just be used to show the scale of the toy, not for operating the toy itself. A battle between Godzilla and Magma would be fun to watch. I couldn't find any info on the toy, so please chime in, if you are familiar with this cutie. The closest thing I found was

Hi Grace, There are a few variations of this toy and some for Kamen Rider too. It is not battery operated but a toy where you push the bottom plate and the figures move. I'm not sure what monster Magma Taishi is fighting but he did fight alot of Godzilla like kaiju. Here is one from Yuji Nishimura's book with Dorokkusu as the opponent..

Jeez .. the trikes have gone nuts, its weird because they are not really rare and it's collectors that bought these which is why you mostly see them mint but in the last year or so they have skyrocketed

@scobot - Agreed, the prices seem to be trending way up. I have seen the last two above sell for 10K JPY or less many times recently. Maybe these auctions just brought out more bidders since they were all listed together from one seller?

I guess I can't say for certain @scobot but I would probably guess that is supposed to be Aron (アロン). He might have even had his characteristic fangs at one point, I am not sure. Can't seem to get a decent photo of him, but here are some action shots from the show:

    [IMG] [IMG]

Prices on the M1 trikes is a real shame. I wonder if there is something in particular that is driving this sudden up-surge, or if it is just random, and people see some going for a lot, and then subsequently bid more the next time? :? It's not looking good though. Hopefully M1 might do another few of these in the coming years.
