... if they can't even see through their fucking space helmets.

I talked to a couple of boarders in Japan, and they both said they were getting clouding problems. I was expecting yellowing over the years but this is pretty severe. Were these done in the new clear vinyl, or were they before the switch?

yeah, they've been out on display, but not in direct sunlight. I think this is a combination of the recent humidity and heat. It gets pretty hot upstairs.

It looks like they've converted their helmets into some kind of space-age bongs.

wow, that's nuts...and will likely keep me from hunting down the rest that I wanted.

Is the vinyl itself clouding, or is it a film inside the helmet?

    It is the vinyl.

I had wondered if they had somehow been affected by my painting nearby (solvent based), but as its happened with a couple of other people too I don't think that the case. It's not happening in the States?

It is really hot here, and I rarely bother with the AC.

Better start bothering more with the a/c. It gets pretty warm in Napa.

I am glad you brought this up, from watching mine forthe last year in winter they were ok, but as soon as these crappy wet summers start this happened again. I even had this in the sealed ones I hadn't touched yet. It's gotta be the humidity. I know other with super dry areas this toy is kept in and there is no fogging.

    hmmmm, that's scary indeed.

although foggy in San Francisco, luckily my troopers are not. ;)

Its the humidity. You can try to put them in a bag and run a hair dryer for a while, that might clear them up a bit. But it shouldn't be a permanent problem; if you give the weather time to settle down they should go back to normal. This is an especially big problem with figures made during the rainy season, as the humidity in the vinyl can really make for a milky figure if the producers aren't careful.

My trooper's helmets (and some other clear figures) become cloudy too and I was about to talking/asking this issues with the maker (not toygraph) but he said he doesn't know the reason why
But it seems that I find the way out :) Riki-san, you're awesome!!

Wow that's nuts! I have a number of clear vinyl figures, no Space Troopers, and live in a SUPER humid climate (GA) and we don't keep the AC on all the time. Luckily NONE of my clear vinyl is fogging or fading, but it certainly makes me paranoid!

Interesting topic, I'll be keeping on eye on it AND my clear vinyl more closely now.

Cheers Ricky, I just tried the hair dryer. The ape is back to crystal clear, and the OG is looking a bit better. Hopefully he'll sort himself out later. So the humidity actually gets temporarily trapped in the vinyl. I had no idea that was possible. I thought they were goners.

Weird that my clear blobpus and RXH weren't affected.

You made me go check my lone trooper (painted purple) and I'm not sure if my eyes were deceiving me or not but it looked a little cloudy. Popped the helmet off and sure enough there was a thin layer of moisture. Wiped it off and it was fine. Must be hot under those helmets for these guys so I'll cut them some slack while they try and take over the universe

No problem! I don't know why it affects some figures and not others myself, either, but it seems like figures with inner parts are more likely to cloud up (Blob DXes, Space Troopers, etc). Its kind of cool to notice the difference in the clarity of the clears, though... it really makes you appreciate those crystal clear ones even more!

i hear if clear vinyl clouds you can take brush and brush on some acetone to clear it up. just watch out for paint. I don't have any clears like that so I can't testify. but give it a try, the acetone won't hurt naked vinyl even if it doesn't work.

From my experience it actually clouds up clear vinyl. You really have to be very gentle and light with it.

It's because you have'nt topped up their oxygen tanks. Poor buggers are suffocating.

Yup, it'll melt vinyl (well, to a degree) so be careful. I wouldn't try it on a piece I was really attached to unless there was really no other solution.

Bizarre....it's humid as FUCK in Boston these days...and of my dozen or so Space Troopers, they're all looking crystal-clear...
