What can I say, I am a silly child at heart (and make no bones about it). But that show made me smile and brought me a lot of times of pure-hearted joy when I probably needed it. Something that speaks so well to adults as well as children is always a testament to the thought, talent, and creativity of those behind it. Sad to hear of Mr. Hillenburg's passing today at the age of 57, from associated health effects due to ALS. Trained as a marine biologist, his sense of wonder - and knowledge - actually came through in his on screen work. But beyond that I think it was clear it was all in the spirit of fun. A child's show after all, but one which lasted nearly two decades, and has entered the cultural myth. This speaks to the value behind it, whether you found something to enjoy it in personally or not. I hope he is off to enjoy many more eternal undersea adventures, with all the BB crew.
