Just read that the X-Files is make a 6 episode return to television and that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are on board. Cautiously optimistic about this, X-Files is one of my favorite all time shows. If only they would bring Northern Exposure back too!

Man, did I ever have a crush on Janine Turner way back then. She's sure seen better days.

Anybody watching the recent Gillan Anderson series, The Fall? Season 1 was aces.

I pretty much ignored The X-Files during it's initial long-ass run, but I've been enjoying having my first real look at it thanks to Kumail Nanjiani's satisfyingly obsessive podcast about it:

    Anybody else?

    Indeed!

I also had a crush on the Smoking Man. That's not weird, right?

Really excited for this! Recently rewatched all the seasons.

The Fall was great, finished up Season 2 a couple months ago. Gillian Anderson was great in it.

We loved Gillian Anderson in Hannibal. This would be an interesting short season. X-Files was a great show. Still have some collector cards around my house somewhere....

Yeah man, she totally ruled in The Fall. The Northern Ireland location made it interesting for me because i used to live there.
Brought back memories of my Belfast girlfriend at the time . . . .

I liked the way it was relatively realistic and the killer had no remorse at all. Much like a lot of real psychos.

I see no reason why a new X-Files couldn't be great. Gillian hinted they were in talks about doing a new season on the Nerdist
    podcast a while back.

As I recall the final season of X-Files and the second movie were both pretty sucky, but the series was unforgettable in general and had such a huge impact on popular culture. Definitely upbeat about a limited-run return. As producer Carter said, the world has gotten a lot stranger since the original series, so... 8)

this is great news. I really dug the (especially early) X-Files, but always felt like it needed a few more episodes to tie it up. who's gonna die?

So I saw that the new series is starting at the end of this month and so I started rewatching the series from the pilot AND listening to Kumail's podcast while at work. Watching the show has given me a great shot of nostalgia and the enthusiasm that comes through on the podcast is really delightful.

The show holds up so well! It is so easy to connect with the characters, even the bad episodes are entertaining.

i was lucky enough to see ep. 1 of the new series at nycc and thoroughly enjoyed it. like the force awakens cleansed my palette of eps. I II & III, this made me forget the doggett years and the second movie (wait, i never saw that).

They have been playing select episodes on TV where I live as a build up to the new ep's ... I forgot how much I enjoyed it, I agree with blakewest even the goofy ones have a fun humor about them.
Was a great episode on the other day where the B story was about the smoking man trying to leave the agency - we see glimpses of his mundane everyday life and follow his attempt to be a published author of sci fi pulp stories based on his life..HA

Interesting... I was a big fan of the TV series until Duchovny left. His dry humor was an important part of the show in my opinion. As to the films, I hated the first one and thoroughly enjoyed the second one. The first film jumped the shark so many GD times it was unbearable for me.

Really looking forward to the mini series. I miss the show. I'm hoping things have been updated and there is a plausible thread throughout its tenure.

I don't think anything is going to cleanse my palette of the Star Wars saga 1, 2 and 3... Ugh. Or maybe even 4 and 6 as well

definitely updated! but the series will be story arc parts 1 & 2 bookending 4 standalone episodes. at least that was my understanding based upon what chris carter said.

I used to watch the show when it was on, but was never a die hard. Mostly I liked the monster of the week episodes and was less interested in the continual alien plot, though I was pretty young so I might appreciate it more now. I honestly don't even remember the second film happening, and can recall the action figures from the first more than the film itself.

That said I am curious about this new series, if it gets me going I could see maybe watching the og series again.

I got into the X-files from the very beginning. I still have vivid memories of the "Pilot" episode and the initially lower production value and was immediately blown away in subsequent episodes as the production value increased astronomically. This was the first time I can recall that a TV series was done on a feature film's production budget and the results speak for themselves. The ever-developing story arcs, mythology, two part episodes, three part episodes, Millennium and Lone Gunmen spinoffs... oh I could continue, but I digress as I'm eagerly looking forward to the new series. I've heard if it does well they may do more. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Mulder, Scully, Skinner, Cancer Man, and the crew do.

I'm enjoying these new ones immensely. It might be part nostalgia, but I'm so glad to see something like this on TV right now! I'm so bummed its only 6 episodes, but that's probably for the best!

I've been loving the new series as well. I think what also works is that both Mulder and Scully seem to have this weight on their shoulders, this almost tired 'here we go again, fighting the good fight' air about them. Great to see them back on the screen. Assistant Director Skinner doesn't look like he's even aged! well, except the grey in his beard.

The world has indeed changed in the time that the X-Files were closed, and I really like that they acknowledge that, especially in these even-more-so paranoid post-911 times. Additionally, with the popularity now of shows like Ghost Hunters/Adventures, Fact of Faked, Destination Truth etc, I expect this to do really well.

Also bummed that this will only be 6 episodes, but better than none at all!

I enjoyed the first episode, but my god the dialog is awful! But it also seemed incredibly familiar, which makes me think that the dialog was always bad. And Mulder seems to be swayed with little to no evidence...again, it felt familiar.

Some guy: "Mulder, you've been duped."
Mulder: "Of course - it's so obvious now! [dials Scully] Scully - we've been duped!"

I watched the first two episodes. Meh. If anything it's made me go back and watch the original series on Netflix and flashback to my life in the 90's (when everything was so much simpler!). Nothing complelling yet, Mulder looks tired. Part of me almost wishes they'd give up the UFO/extraterrestrial schtick and just do the whole creature of the week investigations. I know the alien life form thing is the basis for all the double crossing conspiracy shit but it's played by now IMO.

Critics who got screeners of the first three episodes say it picks up a lot with the third, a "monster of the week" episode.
I've only seen 1 so far, DL'ing 2 now. Liked the new unlikeable Alex Jones-like character. Paranoid conspiracy theory for money indeed!

Not that there's no conspiracy.

I'm digging the first two new episodes and looking forward to the rest. I'm curious about how Joel McHale's character will play out and what his true intentions are. I'm glad they've continued with the integrated story arc that drove the previous seasons since 1993.
