I seriously think that Hirota is viewing skullbrains comments and showing that the head looks the same without the new eyes.

Needs glasses.

 

The more I see the eyes put in, the dumber it looks to me. It looks less Fink eyes, and more stretched, Looney Tunes kind of eyes. The eyeless one looks A LOT better, but the textures still throw me off.

 

Massively better without the eyes. Seeing them side by side, the eyes feel forced. Like a circle in a square hole. I don’t know why he didn’t add more texture to the body. The head looks great, but not a single matching piece of texture on the entire body bums me out.

 

Or if you read the blog...The next release will not have the eyes.

 

I guess this 20th anniversary is a special version. In the future, most versions may not have eyeballs. Eyeballs may only be available in special commemorative versions.

 

hopefully the next release will come with removable glasses

yeah i read it this morning, either i missed that the other day or something. hell i didn't even notice the tail til his latest post on IG. im digging the paint on the veins, makes it pop for sure.

 

But how long did he spend on the eyes?

Seeing the finks out in the wild...aside from the size and chunkiness of the sculpt, I don’t find too much about it very appealing. If I had an army of fink fight figs it would be fun to have it preside over them.

Otherwise....meh.

 

Honestly I think I'm in an HxS slump. Like the last three designs didnt wow me and this didn't either. I haven't really wanted something since the Brutal-A which by the way i'm down for if anyone has one they want to part with lol.

Absolutely thrilled to welcome in my first toy by Hirota. I tried to capture some of the ferocity in this sculpt with my photos, but I can't do the Kraken justice.

It's the subtle asymmetries that make this toy for me: the way its scales fit tightly in irregular clusters like we see in nature, the slight difference in thickness between one leg and the other, and especially the curving line of the plates down its stomach. Even though the toy stands in the usual square stance, those variations give it a sense of real musculature and motion that I haven't seen before. And even though I'm not usually a fan of high gloss finishes, it works perfectly here, like the beast just rose up out of the sea.

Anyway, she's a beauty. My deepest thanks to the board member who gave me the opportunity.

I think once hxs decided to start using Instagram to sell toys was the point he fell off the radar for me. I just don't care that much for using the app let alone posting photos these days. I do think there are benefits there for combating flippers but I'm just not a fan of what that platform has become.

 

Apparently he received it as a birthday gift from his gf. Which is, um, intriguing to say the least. And his IG looks like he got into toys via Huck Gee two years ago. "True collector" yeah right.
