Is this thing still a thing?

It's looking like NO for now. Too expensive to produce.

Sucks because I was all fired up about it, then reality set in

Really bummed about this not happening, but if it doesn't make sense...well, hopefully one day it shows up.

Perhaps a partnership with S7? I hear that they may have dipped their toes in the jumbo game. :D

    Edit:
    Never mind. :?

Thanks guys, I'm bummed about it also. It might still happen though. Slim chance.

I would like to do it in a vinyl form, maybe about ten inches tall with a monster to fight. That's a bit more realistic goal :)

Forget the robot, just make toys of the guys GB is fighting here.

Jeff - if you don't mind sharing with us, what did the rough estimate per for producing the toy end up being? More than $200, obviously, but how much more?

It wasn't that bad- but a big part of keeping costs low were having interchangeable parts with other robots. For instance it was planned to have a uniform torso, upper arms and upper legs.

The torso could be altered by press on parts. I had the idea of doing things like a chromed plastic chest piece.

But the other robot projects via the producer got put on hold, so mine did too.

Final retail price would've been around 200 dollars plus shipping. It's hard to say how many would've sold. Jumbo collectors understand stuff is expensive to produce and I don't think that price was too outrageous, but at the same time you can get a decent shape vintage piece for that much.

It's not totally dead, just back-burnerd I guess. I absolutely love Jumbos, I only own the common US releases, several of which I bought from my neighbors mom after I coveted them in my youth !

You could do a pair that are mirror images in tribute to the Mothra Fairy Twins, call them the Hairy Twins.

I like that idea! Maybe a two-pack of 5 inch figures. At least the bottom half could be the same to save on production costs...hmmm....

    Bummer on the no-go.

I could definitely get behind a 10" vinyl, though...as long as it was in-scale with Medicom's sweet robot vinyls (the Dynamic heroes, the Mazinger villains, etc.)!

Yes! I got a nice production quote for a ten inch vinyl figure with a reasonable retail price.

Should come to fruition before the end of the year. I'm excited, I love vinyl robot figures along with the traditional diecast stuff.

It'll be self produced, limited numbers and at least 4 variations , each release around 50-60 pieces. Shipped from USA so that will be much cheaper.

There'll be several minor changes to it as compared to the digital renderings shown.

I'm excited- can't wait to have it in hand.

Clearly Fighting Dragon is a good guy, just look at that helmet! Only good guys would where a helmet like that...well most good guys ;)

good guy! Built to battle giant monsters gone bad... :) A single pilot sits in the head, in flight mode the wings fold back and there's a cockpit on the back of the head.

He's got a medieval design influence, so it's secret base is somewhere in Europe....an old castle

I am really happy to see that you were able to revive the Fighting Dragon robot in some way Jeff. I have been very vocal from the start how excited I was for this project, and while I am sure I was one of a group who were crushed to hear that it sort of fell apart in production/got pushed back indefinitely, I am thrilled to see that the 10" version is now coming along. I have my fingers crossed still that strong sales and positive feedback for this version might still go a ways to show a push for the jumbo can be made at some point, but obviously this is a very costly and demanding business, especially now with the growth in the hobby.

The pic of the mockup for the smaller version looks really nice, and loving the artwork as always. I am still hopeful that you might be able to work in a medieval/robot themed sword for this guy, ss I love me some accessories to play with, but understand how the smaller production makes it more of an issue.

thank you sir! really appreciate that. I priced out a sword/ metal chained mace/ball...added a lot of costs. I may look into resin casting a sword. Part of the problem is I wanted "chrome" plated plastic, which is a whole different process than what the factory usually does. Also a hole all the way through the fist might be hard to produce...I suppose I could just drill them myself :)
