Hello Board - Anyone who's on here that is already using a ecommerce site/service, can you offer any advice or suggestions? Looking to create a new one and have no basis of comparison these days. I know most open source stores tend to be free, but there's still the payment processing, etc. I'm looking for something as inexpensive as possible, but still allows us to list a lot of products, more than one pic, payment options... you get the idea. Any help and/or advice based on your experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you
I think Storenvy takes 10% if you sell something listed in their marketplace, 0% if you sell something from your shop directly. I just turned off the marketplace shit, I don’t really care whether people find me through search or not. You also have to pay to add coupon codes. Other than that though, I think it’s free. I could be wrong though, it’s been a loooong time since I sold anything. Maybe it’d be worth it to ask Corey/Science Patrol, since he uses Storenvy to sell his wares.
I use big cartel. It’s 10 a month to upgrade to a plan that allows your own domain name, and let’s you list a lot of items with something like 5 photos per item. I know some people have had an issue with over selling using BC. But there is a feature you just have to turn on that prevents over selling. I have never had an issue once. They also have a lot of Templates and you can make something that looks more like a simple website rather than a generic web shop.

I can second this. I use BC and have never had an issue. $10 a month gets you 25 items, 5 pics each, and all sorts of other things like coupon codes and other ways to run specials. It’s super easy to set up and has a pretty detailed dashboard to keep an eye on your numbers.
I've looked at a lot of options and most appear to be pretty similar. So I'm trying to find the least expensive since my goal is to not create something over the top site wise. Trying to keep it simple, easy to navigate, hard for me to fuck up... you get it. But thanks again, I will look
Thinking about switching from Big Cartel, since they added the mandatory sales tax. Did most online cart services do this, does anyone know which ones don't add sales tax?
I actually just noticed this yesterday when updating my shop. It seems like the result of some new laws going into effect. I was going to suggest Shopify since I've heard good things..but I just checked their website and they state that they collect sales tax where required by law. So it seems like maybe it's across the board. The only service I don't recommend is Storenvy. They charge all buyers a Storenvy fee instead of allowing sellers to subscribe for a fee and they really didn't make that clear from the get-go.
All online shop sites now collect sales tax for the States that require it. Not al States have jumped on this, but those that have now require all the sites to collect.
Storenvy is shit. Hidden fees for buyers for some stupid reason. No decent ability to prevent massive stock overselling on limited items. The paid version of Bigcartel is good. Simple tools with good options. Semi-decent stock control. Yeah buyers get hit for sales tax now but that's not bigcartel, that is just new laws.
I have stuck with Bigcartel for the moment based on ease and no drama. I only use the free five item package as I don't really release much. That combined with all the IG back and forth, it almost seems pointless to have a shopping cart anymore...
