Don's been posting some great bootleg patchi toys lately, so it made me bust out these disco guys for a photo. Didn't see a bootleg thread so...

Great line up of bootlegs Lixx. I had started a thread specifically for these karate-chop/disco guys a while back that never really took off.

Crap I didn't even see that. Sorry. Well maybe a more generalized thread of bootlegs will? Here's another:

No problem, I was hoping more folks would post some of their guys too. Even when the same figures have been seen before, I still like to see people's photos, and it is sometimes interesting to see the differences.

I am still really jealous of the Kamen Rider v3. I love his SW looking pose. Here are a few bootlegs in that similar 'creamy' vinyl style.

Dumb question here. Are these mostly Japanese or is the opposite true?

Not a dumb question at all. Yep, most of the bootlegs are Japanese. The Chinese ones (at least for what I have seen) are generally just of the larger figures, and limited to popular characters like Kamen Rider etc., and don't really appear until the 80s. That is not to say that there aren't likely some smaller foreign bootlegs out there, but not as common I think, and I guess since we generally buy them from Japan, they are the mostly Japanese ones.

  7. Gatiio, glad you asked it. I was wondering the same.
Ultrakaiju I certainly appreciate your answers to these questions!!
I really am liking a lot of these bootlegs. Thanks for sharing

Thanks, Ultra. I remember seeing tons of these back in the day in Mexico, especially the blow-molded kind. They always looked good, but the colors were off. Like fluorescent green Kamen Raiders and what not, plus they often times had stickers instead of paint on them. A lot of it I assumed it to be Chinese or actually made in Mexico.

Then again, I might be well off here.

Ah well as for that, those were probably made in Mexico, you are right. I have seen some truly great bootleg stuff from there (and some of the most horrendous, but that is what makes it fun :) ). It is almost all very cheaply made, either simple small casted toys or blow-molded polyethylene figures. I am not sure what the connection was with the Japanese characters made there, but they have also produced (and still make) bootleg toys of all kinds of character lines from the 70s and 80s.

If you want to see some more great South American bootleg toys, check out these guys collections for a start, and then some of their groups.

Yes, plenty of stuff made in Mexico. None of which I posses, of course. Rodrigo de Orduña really has a stunner collection and some nice videos of it. There's a couple dedicated especially to Japanese characters.

Here's a look at the Children Toy set next to the Ninja Series Lion Maru. The Lion Maru figures look to be the same, but the paint apps are slightly different.

Nope. I see no differences whatsoever; they are 100 percent the same. Now sell it to me already!

Ive never see that childrens toy set, I like the barom-one in there. I got this odd-ball little set recently. "Pencil topper" style.

Mazinger too. I like it when they do totally freak out off-character colors. Here's a more Inazumanny version of the boot:
