Madlib, Dilla, Oh Know, pretty much any ninja tune artist. Diplo, Iron Maiden, Rush, Zep, Dire Straits, RadioHead It just depend on what im doin Just downloaded major lazer and la roux : http://www.maddecent.com/blog/lazerproof Its pretty good and I hate everything
A bit of everything. Tops in ambient music: North Sea, ELEH, The Beautiful Schizophrenic, Stars of the Lid, Windy & Carl, Phil Niblock, BJ Nielsen (sp?), Jana Hunter, Troum... Tops in rap: I love good albums, but don't hear too many these days. I'll search google for mix or tribute tapes by dj's of specific artists. So it's like a flawless selection mixed of wu-tang, current hits, or whatever. I do like those two Cunninglinguist lps that came out last year, Felt (slug & murs?), Themselves, and P.O.V. Fav mixtapes right now: any old mixtapes by Dr Dre (swapmeet tapes over on WFMU) and tapes by Biz Markie Tops in metal: Earth, High on Fire, Southern Lord, Khyst, Earthless, Liturgy,... Tops in indie? Dunno... that new Caribou is great! But its house! Tops in jazz? Been listening to Charlie Parker Live at Massey Hall almost exclusively for a few months. The version of 'Salt Peanuts' is crazy!
If your into DJ Mix's (all kinds: hip-hop, techno, Rnb.....) check this site: http://www.mixcrate.com/ Here is a link to a mix I made a few years back http://www.mixcrate.com/mix/8199/DJ-Del ... nd-Control
have listened to Pendulum - Immersion on repeat every time I've been in the car for the past few days.
If you like Pendulum, check out Fabio and Grooverider's show from this week online http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00948qq They have sets from the BBC live show in Wales, and the first set is Pendulum. Not bad. It also has a set from Fabio and Grooverider and Sub Focus.
I had heard the La Roux In for the Kill Skream remix a while ago and really liked it. Downloaded on that premise. I actually never heard Major Lazer before or listened to any Jamaican Dance Hall. I actually really liked the way they meshed. I Really liked the mix. I then checked out some Major Lazer videos on YouTube and discovered Daggering. Lol.
What I have listening to the most is: Kylesa Masters of Reality High On Fire Weedeater The Sword new Jimi Hendrix (Valley of Neptune) Boris Alice Cooper Brian Jonestown Massacre Electric Wizard Shrinebuilder Erykah Baduh Bob Marley Son House
I like it a lot. I was a little hesitant because of the absence of Chi but the album rocks. The best way I could describe it is that it's the bastard child of Around the Fur and White Pony. Check it: http://www.myspace.com/deftones
Going crazy for Peste Noire's new one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoJUgl-tKWM I don't know much about the band other than loving this album and wishing there was a vinyl version. Anyone else a fan? Know much about the band?
I rediscovered Eiffel 65's Europop album, and Chumbawumba's Tubthumper this week... great stuff for driving!
I just can't let myself enjoy them for some reason. It reminds me of the stuff I loved from Dead Raven Choir however.
I've been meaning to check them out as well. Also, Black Boned Angel is really great. I wish they had a different name though.
Best new UK indie-rock band in ages: General Fiasco Just got the album. God, it's good! Makes me feel sixteen again. And apparently they have enuff material for a second already. Been compared to Ash cuz they're a 3-piece fr. N.Ireland & on the same record label, but take no notice of that. Personally, I think they've got a touch of the Fall Out Boy thing going on, but THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT at the moment, isn't it? Gorgeous lead singer & awesome songwriting. They're gonna be hueg ~ Ever So Shy : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As-Rulo-E4g Sinking Ships: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmvfiGK-LB4
Diplo's podcast is pretty fantastic. Each is really varied. Some I can't stand (not quite grokking a lot of new baile funk), but some are just sick. Other podcasts/dj mixes I like are: mnml mssgs, jjsmokingsessions (which are all made up of 'best of' mixes, really well done), chris leibings CLR mixes are pretty good if you like hard techno, playmytapes, allez-allez, dj pete's 'wax treatment' podcasts are the weirdest dub/break step mixes out there, d00dcast is 2 hrs of really obscure psych-stoner-rock, Stonesthrow posts good mixes, Daptone Jukebox are mixes of old (some new) soul 45s via the label that brought us Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings.
I thought for sure no one here would have similar tastes to me. But I'm glad to see names like Earth, High on Fire, Kylesa, Nadja, Red Sparowes, Sleep, etc. showing up here. I've been listening to a lot more doom and sludge lately with a spattering of post-rock/metal. Of note: The Abominable Iron Sloth, Admiral Angry, Amenra, Birds of Prey, Crawl Back In, Facedowninshit, Latitudes, Saviours, Six Dead Horses.
