How exactly should it be nipped in the butt? Temporary thread locks? They did that. Numerous warnings to everyone involved? They did that. Talking to them all one on one so as to not escalate things publicly? They did that. One of the guys involved using the "childish" ignore function and asking the other guy to leave him alone? They did that. And what was the actual outcome? One guy calling the other a motherfucking piece of shit WEEKS later while bragging about the fact he was told not to mention him anymore in a thread that had nothing to do with the guy then calling someone else a pile of dog shit and telling someone else in a perfect passive aggressive fashion that his toy show was just to get himself more toys in his personal collection. All in the span of just a few days but the staff should let it all go yet again because this place has a reputation of being mean? None of that stuff had anything to do with hating anyone's toys or paint or art at all.
@Waterbear OK, we understand you don't like Glen. With two long posts you've made that abundantly clear and that is your right, as it should be. But you seem to be ignoring the fact that the person you are defending the most (Rich) has said in an earlier post 'I’d say let Glenn back'. Did you even read that post? Rich is a big boy and can defend himself or not, as he chooses. Go back and read his post, its very calm and collected.
I don't dislike him at all and I said that clearly several times. I dislike how he treats people here and how he treats the staff in general. I am not defending Rich at all. I don't know the guy and he does a fine job defending himself. Did you not read what I said about him personally insulting three different people in the last few days? It's not about Rich Or John Or Chris individually. Or about the dozen plus other people he's fucked with here. It's about the fact he loves being mean and starting shit then taking it way beyond what anyone else here would ever get away with. You can keep trying to boil it down to one specific instance or one specific person to justify whatever you want but that's just being purposefully obtuse.
@Waterbear was quoting and stating facts of what happened that lead to the Ban/Time out/whatever we want to call it. A lot of others were asking for why Glenn was banned, and a lot of what he said sums it up with specific incidents. There is no argument from anyone that Glenn is a huge fan and contributor to the toy world we are part of, and this board. However, his actions and comments were often times not about toys and became personal. Several members were asking both publicly and privately where mods were, and what mods were doing about these situations. As I stated before Glenn was talked to and warned several times before this ban happened. There was nothing personal about it, if any member is repeatedly harassing members here, we would do the same thing. It's up to them reaching out if it remains permanent or they are let back into the community. which I believe Glenn is trying to do.
Okay @Waterbear @animator I think there is a generational or geographical divide happening here. I don't mean to appear flippant, I really don't. For whatever reason I don't see what Glenn has been doing as all that bad. For example - compared to shit I've seen on Reddit, this place is a hippy love fest. I had to leave Reddit because it depressed me so much.
That’s the thing, are we gonna start comparing everything to the worst. Because if so that’s like saying well in this last school shooting only 5 died compared to 25 so not to bad. Shouldn’t be any. There is no need to be assholes at every opportunity just because we don’t like someone. I don’t like some people on here and many social media platforms. but I just keep it to myself. What’s really the point of airing it out at every opportunity. I get critiques, and jokes even when harsh. But sometimes on here there is none of that and just being assholes for the sake of seeing someone get picked on. That’s pointless. A joke is a joke, but once it becomes a pattern its not healthy and people end up angry and feeling like shit. This board is at its finest when knowledge of rare toys and toy brands is on display. And when people are passionate about the love of this hobby and creating art. The problem is when people get so offended they can’t let a grudge go, and need to keep opening a wound. Or being an asshole because they have a good one liner like some hack comedian. It’s when the line gets crossed one to many times. Then what. What’s the point because nothing good ever comes from it. I know being positive generally gets the barf reaction but I don’t care. That’s how I’m gonna continue to approach it.
Eh, looking through all the comments, past and present, Glenn seems to be the bad guy in it all, but this time he was clearly baited because I’m still looking for the messed up “L”
Really? Because https://www.reddit.com/r/Sofubi/ is a ghost town. If anyone wants a "new frontier" they should head over there.
-"He tweeted some um... inappropriate things." -"He tweeted some inappropriate things. Oh you bunch of fucking... I'm getting back in my sleigh now." There were thread locks, I don't know what happened beyond that. Rich trying to ignore Glenn obviously didn't work out. I can't recall a mod ever telling the both of them to take it to pm and stop tossing their shit at each other in public. I don't think this situation was handled and communicated ideally. See, I find none of the above offensive, just annoying - because, again, it's obviously personal beef that should be handled in a personal way and afaic NO ONE ELSE CARES.
I completely understand what you're saying and it's incredibly difficult for me to explain the difference between how people critique toys here in hilariously brutal fashion like you do and when someone is just out to entertain themselves by attacking someone openly or baiting them into a stupid flame war with passive aggressive comments and a smile or wink. I think part of the divide is that people are confusing those two things. You for example have always treated me like a friend. When I've asked you about specific toys or for advice or even when I bought something from you years ago you weren't just nice you were incredibly kind. Same thing with Andy. He is legitimately a nice guy. I don't see any of the stuff either of you guys do having any resemblance to what happened here. You don't attack people at all. You aren't trying to hurt anyone's business or make other people side with you against anyone else. You both share your opinions and it's entertaining and informative regardless of whether you love or hate whatever you're talking about. Glenn did a lot of that too. In very much the same way. And that's cool. It's all the other stuff that was the problem. The stuff no ones else does besides maybe that Q guy. So regardless of whether you agree with me or not please don't think that anything I said about this place being mean or people not wanting to come here is about you or Andy or anyone else at all.
Sorry, that information is officially verboten. None shall pass. The mystery of the Longneck 'L' will remain a mystery. Skullbrainers will whisper to each other about it in dark corners. The mystery of the Longneck 'L' will puzzle experts for the rest of human existence
I am, honest! I just spent all day working on a job gratis. Just because the main man used to be an Intelligence Officer in the Israeli Military . . . and that just sounds badass and like a guy I want to work with! I doubt he collects dolly's!
Joking about torture is sociopathic. Not upset not "triggered" but go ahead take a victory lap on me Andy. This time was grand.
FYI I’ve helped out a bit with the Kaiju Cult shows since the beginning, and Chris has barely kept anything from them, much less any hyped toys. Honestly I was wary of personal involvement in toy shows to begin with, because of all the negative stuff I previously read on SB. That’s not how the Kaiju Cult shows have gone at all. In fact,I’ve admittedly scored more desirable stuff from the shows myself, because Chris is very appreciative of any help he receives and he knows I’m a real collector. (Yes, Skullbrain.... I should burn in Hell for taking home a Kumon after volunteering time and effort for a toy show. ) Just stating facts as I’ve observed them. Reality is not as open to interpretation as the internet would have you believe. And while I would still be collecting toys absent of any “scene” in Atlanta, as a social person I enjoy commiserating with other toys geeks pretty much as often as I can. I’m not choosing sides or any of that childish bullshit. Just separating facts I’ve observed from pure internet conjecture.
All the musically inclined 'brainers should start a banned called The Barf Reaction. Not a typo, just trying to maintain a minimum of thread-relevance.
Cory of Science Patrols did give me a Slime Adjudicator for free instead of paying 20 bucks, which is my only personal haul from the last show #hYpEfLiPSQuaD4LYfE
