I know man. It was gone in a flash. I just didn't have the money for it. I hate the beginning of the month. Stupid rent. Unfortunately I need a place to put my toys though. Haha. But ya, would have liked that one.
From what i understand it was a Japanese only drop from translation? Idk it was super limited anyways so probably more than likely no one here got it. Yeah it was an extremely awesome color way.
It was released internationally also. http://tomenosuke.bandec-japan.com. Sold out of course. Really hope to track it down one day....... I did score the Lucanous Grey version of the new guy Dharmapala though. So yay for that!!!
^^I ran across that myself recently. I think I have more Mirock than any other maker, except Grody Shogun, and I've never posted here. Mirock is really in a class by itself in terms of style. It's hard to even compare to other stuff, with the persistent Buddhist iconography, lack of pretense toward kaiju-ness and crazy attention to detail. Maybe the polar opposite of GS in sculpting, now that I think of it. This deity set was the first thing I got from Mandarake (which I didn't discover till like six months ago for some reason?), and I was real happy to get it, 'cause I'd been seeing them and loving them, with the exception of those gradated paint jobs I'd been seeing on them. Which ranged from "awful" to "meh" for me. I've since seen a chrome set and an oil spill-type set since which were cool, too. But almost all of them seem to be that gradated thing. Buy these are fantastic. That the "wooden" ones are painted like wood, and it looks like a bunch of browns in there. I just saw a set up at the aforementioned site, if anyone was feeling the way I did. Let me know if you can't find 'em. I just got my first Massive Attack thanks to @Purple Bat , and the detail looks even tighter than the other stuff I had. I dig that he's working in larger scale, but I hope he still does some stuff I can actually afford EDIT: Heh, I need to switch that shelf out with one that's less scratched up. How do you even scratch up a shelf that you put nothing but soft vinyl on?
Maybe a bit off subject.. But I just love this Itokin Park mash up he recently posted, with his head sculpt on the astronaut boy. He's done a few others in the past.. I'm lucky enough to own one with a boy riding in a Mirock tank. Gosh, I sure wouldn't mind seeing a few of these at Dcon come November.. Haha, yeah, that kinda sums it up, I actually just put those together for the shot. My stuff usually tends to be all over the place. They do look good together, though, thank you. @Beantime - Ha, not a collab I would've predicted. I'd still like to get one of those regular Itokin Park astronauts. Those things go for like 10x what they retail at, though These are from 2014 and they are near the top when you search IP, but, while we're down this road:
Nice, second one pictured is the one I have.. They work pretty well together IMO. Also, happy to see Itokin will be making the trek to Dcon, that’s the only reason I’d have hopes for this collab to be there.. If not that then more astronauts and something new perhaps.. Anyway, carry on with the regular scheduled Mirock discussions!
The guy has immense talent for sure, but, like Cojica, Atom.a, KtoKto and a bunch of other 'newer' artists, I kinda feel like they seem to be on a production line. They know the level of interest, make half that quantity and know they'll instantly sell out . . . rinse and repeat, same time same place next month. The fight figure lull has had me picking up some random adhoc stuff over the last 18 months or so, and even though the quality is always great, the paint is always on point, they seem like nice guys and the hype hasn't gone to their heads, so the pricing hasn't skyrocketed to dumbass NNN levels, but just the way they are sold flicked a switch inside my head that makes it easy to say 'thanks but no thanks'! Not 'hating' for sure, but kinda like meeting an artist and finding out he's a jerk would kill my interest . . . the way shit's marketed and sold (and even the fanbase that are chasing it) now has the same effect! #instagramgeneration
I don’t follow. You don’t like how mechanical those artists are with the production process? Like since releases are so regular it seems top assembly-like-ish? I do feel like I’ll get bored fast with these if they stick to the same relatively safe metallics. The glitter elements on the New Year’s colourway looked fresh to me but I don’t think I could keep more than one or two colourways at a time
I guess that might be it! Although it's not even the production process as such. . . just the formulaic selling process feels soulless and contrived. The whole entering lotteries for the opportunity to buy pointless and intentionally limited toys has gotten old. Lots of manufacturers seem scared of putting out decent sized runs, not selling out and highlighting how teeny-tiny their fanbase is maybe? Meh! . . . . musings of a grumpy old man . . . buy whatever floats yer boat!
The toy colorway will grow on you over time. It just doesn't happen instantly over night sometimes. Iv got more than 2 of some of his sculpt's in various colors.
View this post on Instagram Here is my collection, and like Andy said I see more sculpts coming but I'm kinda done. The new Jizo is cool and all but I love where my collection is at. It's perfect, I don't need more. I'm glad to have collected his work during this obvious period of creative boon he has had. I treasure my Mirock collection.
