yeah I'd say so, they are based in china. here are all of the first colorways on their figures that they've released so far:
^ Seconded. Regarding Maguro Senpai: header states "Made in China" / toy stamp claims "Made in Earth"
Pretty disappointed in missing that lobster, I don't even remember seeing it until after the fact. I missed the squid too, but that was my fault even though it was up for preorder for awhile. I had to fund other toys in that time ):
Okay. Great thanks all. I'm up in Washington and it's about 100 here with a broken a/c unit. So I've just been looking up stuff instagram. Seems like a ton of toys are being produced. EVERYWHERE. I like these guy those. Seem fun..
all of the first editions have been open pre-orders. myplasticheart is their US distributor for those, but as far as other releases they mostly seem to be convention exclusives and others of that sort. from preview pics I've seen, they are doing the maguro in a larger size, and have a few other sculpts coming out that are mid size (in line with the rest of the figures they've already done)
The 'Salmon' Maguro version was open pre-order (through Instinctoy) as well. An additional number were held for sale at 5Points Fest. The "Made in Earth (aka China)" stuff aside, presentation on that release was top-notch. From the header (plastic "staples" were something new) to the 'factory' paint and metal knife, it was quality across the board. The vinyl itself, while a tad harder than sofubi, feels sturdy and not brittle or cheap. Multiple points of articulation add to the figure's charm & play/pose-ability. Haven't seen the other 2 sculpts in person yet, but can safely say the Magura is fun little toy. I'd advise anyone on the fence to pick one up when they can.
I got the Salmon and I love it. The expression on that little guy is just perfect. The vinyl is nice!!! The sun glows through the "meat" which is translucent. It's a really well done figure. That being said, I did not go for the crab or the squid. I see the OG as an iconic design, and the others just didn't hit me the same way. I do like them just not enough to get everything from this maker. Salmon was cheap, and well done. Proud to have him on the shelf, but yeah I don't need them all.
^^ Run of 2/3k ??? So much for being 'rare'... I don't want mine anymore (pm me bros) If true (honestly wouldn't be surprised), that speaks even higher volumes of their QC.
I have two of those and they are both great quality. I am thinking about getting one customized. I have ordered custom kimonos for them as well, I should have them next week, hoping to be able to share!
oh nice @foto junkaay! I can only imagine the email you sent in... "hi, I would like to order two custom kimonos for my tuna fish"
@chimmychazz hahaha actually this is someone that I have used before for my 3A figures. She makes clothing for dolls and does a really great job. Her prices are really reasonable and she had posted that she was making some kimonos for Maguro so I messaged her and asked if I could buy a couple. $13 each shipped. If you guys are interested, please let me know, I can helps! This is one of the designs: SO CUTE! HOW COULD I NOT?!
I know someone that does! Lol she does the clothing for my threeA ladies lol This person is not on the boards >.<
Don't fall for the EBAY hype they discount here and there so be patient unless it's uber rare don't care. Oh and watch for the shipping lol. Some people discount their stuff to get a hit but their shipping charge is 50 dollars 0.0
