Nothing major, but I did pick up a KR Spiderman villain I've always wanted (and immediately slapped on boots and belt from a reissue Batman). Those boots were extremely hard to put on- eventually had to use a hair dryer! Can't go wrong with Dr. Hell either, and the white head version of the bootleg Barom One is even better (and bigger I think) than the silver headed version:
Very nice trio of fellas there Chris, it's a fantastic Barom-1 bootleg. The size difference is really intriguing, so it is very nice to see the two of them standing next to each other. Happily one less I won't be fighting you for. =)
LOL Don't I know it. I mean I knew I could 'spruce up' Kumo Otoko with a reissue boots/belt combo so when one popped up for 7000 yen I figured why not? Not in bad shape either. I know people like original boots and belts but I probably saved myself an additional 23000 yen by buying one without. So if it doesn't bother you, and you have a reissue toy lying around I highly recommend jumping on a low priced original villain. Because let's face it- the toy looks 1000 x better with the boots and belt. Toy is super cool looking - probably my favorite of the standard sized KR villains! I need a blue faced Dr Hell variant though!
Small, but satisfying bundle Left to Right: Takatoku Zaninga, Miura Triceratops, and Bullmark Geronimon
Great pickups Grace! I've never seen that Takatoku Zaniga before; what a cool looking figure! They really pulled out all the stops in design of that character: neck frill, back sail, AND tusks. He's got it all! Your Miura Triceratops looks way shinier than mine (pic below for reference.) Hard to judge sheen from the photo, but you can somewhat see what i mean, I think.
Thank you @paulk ! That Zaninga looks rather "modern", the colors are so bright, and I was really lucky to adopt these toys in good condition. The yellowish tint on the Zaninga's paws, tusks, and hood, are actually metallic gold, as is the blue and silver sprays. Thanks for posting a photo of your herd, they are nice! I also need to track down a pteranodon and Gabara! Not sure if it makes any difference, but I'm finding that Dawn dishwashing liquid (the blue stuff) and a gentle brush, gets these toys really clean. Each one I've washed so far, comes out with a nice shiny sheen . I really love the Geronimon. His "head dress feathers" and the light use of accent colors, makes him a very striking creature. Here he is, asking Godzilla to share his snack...
Wonderful trio (+1) of new toys, Grace. As superb as the dinos are, I have to give love to the Bullmark Geronimon. He is such a different kaiju from the normal Ultra fare (which are already very bizarre). I love the sculpt, just wonderful, fun, and so different from the other versions. His lion-like face and head frills, just the right amount of subtle paint, dinosaur-like back and tail, couple with his 'cuffs,' it is all wonderful. I really want to track down one of these, even a B-Club repro would do wonderfully for the time being if I am honest.
Thank you Stevie! In a way, Geronimon looks a bit neekid! But I do agree! There is something neat about those head feathers and the back spines, which hints very strongly of a Native American eagle-feathered headdress
Yeah, his body is relatively 'plain' which is another way that the toy is quite different. In term of headdress and feathers, that is why I love this version so much more than say the Bandai or Yamanaya figures. While he is totally not-screen accurate, I much prefer the more 'animal' aspect of this guy. You still get that impression, but it really seems like it is part of his body. I suppose, in a way, I see this guy as a totally different character from the Ultraman villain. The whole 'shaman' aspect which was the character isn't even there, the nature of the creature seems to be very different (very lion/dino like, as I said), and this is one of those cases where you almost have to wonder if the artist knew anything about the character. I wouldn't even been that surprised to learn that this was a completely independent sculpt that was 'appropriated' into being Geronimon. I am sure there is probably an interesting story there, but whatever the case may be, I like him. A lot. Thanks for the extra photos!
Happy Vintage Mail Day, one more villain for the Arashi family..... It was a long wait, but it was worth it.
Vintage package day today. Pachi Devilman! So tempted to open it! Added another Mechanikong. The one next to the light blue I have been hunting. Bullmark Dodongo with SAN logo.
@Alebrije Roger, is that Doku Utsubo? He looks like a naughty horse. I don't collect the Ninja Arashi villains, but they are interesting to look at. Can you give me more info on Doku Utsubo? What episode does he appear in? I tried doing a search, but didn't come up with much. Congrats on that adoption! @chimply.kaiju very nice! Especially the Dodongo!
chimply.kaiju those are great toys. Had a reprint b-club dodongo once, but never came close to the originals. Very impressive!
First do it with Devilman! I know, I know, the packaging looks really cool but you can always put the backing card behind the toy in your display. Second, wow so you have all variants of the vintage Mecha Kong?! Is the far left just a reprint or extra? I thought there were only three color varieties? That lightest blue one is a grail for me.
Thank you very much Grace, to be honest I have not seen all the chapters of Ninja Arashi I am not so old lol, I would like to acquire the manga but the first ones the vintage, since there are some reprints but I do not know how it is the cover of the first mangas. If I find the episode I send you the link, best regards and hugs for your cats..
Thank you Roger! Good luck with capturing all of the vintage Ninja Arashi vintage figures! I will definitely pass on your hugs to the kittees! Emma is in need of an extra hug, as she got her teeth cleaned yesterday, and for a cat that is no small feat! The vet has to use general anesthesia to sedate the cat (or dog), so that their teeth and gums can be cleaned. Fortunately all of her teeth are in good condition--probably because she likes to chew on toys, if she can catch them!
I hope your cat recovers soon, I know that tooth cleaning is hard even for dogs that are a little bigger. I think I'm going to need a lot of luck to catch all the villains, but over time and a little patience I hope to complete my mission..
@chimply.kaiju - Love those Mechani-Kongs. Incredible collection. Congrats on picking up another version for your Bullmark troop. That whole shelf looks great.
@poysntixels - Thanks. Certain common color vintage versions of the Bullmark Dodongos aren't really all that expensive, unless it's that brown version. It's the Marusan that cost a good penny. @Lixx Chris, it is a extra dark navy blue I won at auction thinking it was the other blue I just won. Good thing with the extra is some of the gold paint is still on the teeth were the other one is pretty much completely faded off. The extra dark navy blue does appear very slightly lighter only be a little bit. @deafmetal - Thanks. I probably will be shifting the shelf again. I want to fit the Marusan 450 versions with the Bullmarks. And the Bullmark bootleg flesh.
@chimply.kaiju thanks for your reply/explanation Anthony. I have to say I'm really impressed with your build up vintage toys! I mean I know you've been getting vintage for years but it really looks like you have quite a collection now. Would love to see full on shelf shots. I have to get a Mecha Kong some day. Toy is simply too cool not to own. I think I'll definitely opt for vintage though (preferably the really light blue) because it seems the reprints go for just as much if not more in the after market.
^^Epic Mechanikong porn! Grace, Doku Utsubo's kinda this reptile guy with a snake hand and another one circling his body. I saw part of the episode he's in (it's pretty early in the series, but I forget what episode number)...but unfortunately it was straight Japanese with no subtitles, so I didn't really follow all the hubbub. I can't remember what his powers were either... :/
@chimply.kaiju I hereby dub thee, Lord Chimply Kaiju - Master of the Robo-Simians Wow, wow, wow... is this sculpt your primary focus, or are you this deep elsewhere? I have no idea how you maintain such iron willpower to keep those Marusan 450 editions sealed. I can't help but release mine right away. I am also stoked that you have the 80's flesh vinyl bootleg. I have been chasing the goji flesh bootleg, but have only found what I believe are custom painted versions so far. Again, great collection, and I really like to see your dedication on picking up all the variant versions. Here is my latest arrival, fresh out of very necessary bath: There was a certain paint style I was looking for in this figure, and after losing out on a pristine-looking beauty a month or two ago, I was able to pick up this colorful trashbag up for much less, and he only needed a couple good cleanings to get all the dirt off. Yet another Bullmark family reunion!
