I can now see what people are saying about the vest/body but for whatever reason I can overlook that. Maybe the dark paint at the throat helps. But I still see it. I just don't care. Can't tell if there's some silver accents (especially on the head) or if that's the camera and lighting. I just like the rusty metallic vibe. Would love to see a look at the back and the tail joint.
Anraku, to me, has always been... unusual. I like the look of it. I didn't care for the new Goga much when I first saw it, but seeing it painted up...I dig it a lot more. So out there. He could've done anything with the belly, but he went with that... so weird!
I definitively like this Proto Goga. All the new releases (even if this one was in the drawer for some time) seem to lean on the more crude and less childish type. It's definitively more Gozilla than Gamera and it makes for a far more aggressive monster. The mix of textures is what I expect from AA, and the crosshatch pattern for the belly is no issue to me at all (Baragozilla ). I with the back had more similarity with the 1st Goga, with less spikes and more strange patterns. I hope they'll release it with a choice of color. I want a blue based one !
apart from its unusual unique look, what made anraku pretty much outstanding to me is that each og sculpt had its own charm but work together fxxking awesome as a family still like straight out of a comic/manga. the larva looks interesting though.
That closer pic is even lovier, and shows off how much work and skill went in this figure. You can really see the wonderful areas of 'wear' where the silver paint is coming through; it is an amazing effect, and really nice with this rust and black paint scheme. He is a fantastic toy, 'unearthed' after eons from some distant kaiju realm. I really do love him.
I have to say I am missing AA's dye jobs on the new medicom toys. Sorry for the quick double post, still getting used to the new system on my phone.
Looks like a bird-like head sculpt on a Nue body? I hope that's only a preview and it'll get its own body soon! I love birdies...
This photo seems off... why do the venus gorillas look so small? Not sure that that is the cambodia/nue body because it wouldn't be that tall compared to the vg's. Plus the c/n body's arms suffer from inflated lat syndrome where the arms are puffed out even though there are no lats to keep them from laying flat. This body doesn't seem to have that...so new body? Also I guess proto-goga is pretty tall based on this photo.
After some of the current crop of makers have put out toys that either feel like rip offs or homages to early 2010 toys, I haven't seen any that have either quality towards Anraku. Or have there been and I just didnt catch it?
@toothaction has there been a toy released that collectors feel is ripping off or paying homage to any anraku pieces?
^ Ah, gotcha. Although I'm sure unintentional, and I might well be the only one that had this feeling, but Buta's Mechara sculpt, especially the paint app on the blue one, put me in a seriously AA state of mind. I don't suppose that really answers your question, though, Sorry. @IronPaw
@toothaction its a general question for anyone. I had not seen those Butas but i totally see the comparison. The Butas seem much more fun though
To be fair, two-headed monsters existed way before Bemon... Didn't Bemon base his sculpt after a classic horror character anyway or something like that? But that being said, I sure could do without seeing another two-headed monster. I think the only two-headed monster that hasn't made me roll my eyes lately has been Dennis's two-headed cat. (Nekosomething or other.) I can't complain about cats.
Just got a new shipment in the mail the other day and it raised a question I'm hoping a more veteran Anraku collector can answer. Could anyone post a picture of the feet of one of the older Mescalgon/Oxidant figures? The new one from Medicom has sections of the feet that look like something was taken off of or covered on the mold, and the lucky bag figure on the right also has those sections covered. I remember reading that this figure may have been developed jointly with Monstock originally, so maybe the markings are related to that? Here are a couple of pictures of what I'm talking about: Thanks in advance for any info that you all can provide! This is my favorite Anraku figure so I'm hoping to learn more about its history.
I was thinking the same thing when I looked at mine. This was a joined creation between Monstock & AA.
