Whoa! I like! Not usually a fan of vinyl mecha, but these have very nice, crisp details. Are they seriously in scale with Microman figures?
When you're commenting on crisp details, are you talking about the first two links to line art that I provided, or the pics at Sakamoto's site? I never measured them and did the math, but I guess they're roughly 1/18th, putting them in scale with Microman. I'll find out.
I know, it sucks when you miss out on stuff like this, but keep in mind that these are extremely low-run items. There were only sixty Fattys made. Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with Sakamoto at Wonderfest in August and push him to do Land Fattys. Those could be cool.
Yes, I meant they have extraordinarily crisp detail in comparison to what I've seen in other vinyl mecha sculpts. I usually prefer ABS or PVC mecha figures for this reason, but I might have to change my mind on these... As for the scale, I was just surprised that they are roughly to scale with the Microman figures. I assumed these were about 5-6" tall when I first saw them.
You think so? I don't know, to my eye they're somewhat un-detailed and definitely super deformed, but that's the charm for me. I guess there really aren't too many other products like this to compare against.
A quick pic of the Zwerg on the shelf with his AT homies: Again, Sakamoto does not disappoint. The lil' guy is articulated at the knees, hips, shoulders, wrists, and both fists flip up to reveal guns. And despite its dwarfism, the figure is broader front to back than the picture shows. I'm pestering Sakamoto to release a Diving Beetle in August, let's see how that pans out.
Lookin' good. I especially dig the flip-down hand guns. I would like to see his rendition of the Diving Beetle. And reissue the Standing Tortoise!!
The news for the August Wonderfest is... no news. The front page of Sakamoto's site doesn't have booth information for the upcoming show, and the latest posting on the BBS is from porn spam robot, which isn't a good sign. This makes me sad.
damn! I hope nothing bad has happened. I was really looking forward to picking one up, too. His work looks very nice and he seems like a nice guy from what I've read.
Good news, everyone! Sakamoto's site now has an apology for not being at the last Wonderfest, and says that he is signed up for the next one in February. Glad to see that he hasn't thrown in the towel.
Check it out, Sakamoto's making a Diving Beetle: http://bbs5.fc2.com//bbs/img/_81300/812 ... 579309.jpg
