So I did a search and didn't find any past posts about this so... Hukkokudo is doing a set of lucky boxs (with full sized Tetran & Beralgon or whatever they were originally called), and if you buy them you get a chance to buy there repro of the Smogun 2 that I guess the Bemon is based on. Anyone have photos of what the original figure looks like? How different is the bemon from the original sculpt? I'm not personally a fan of the Bemon figure, but it's got my interest. It strikes me the bemon isn't far off what the original toy looks like, so I'm wondering what Hukkokudo's version will do to peoples interest in the figure... should be interesting anyway.
I don't believe anyone knows what the original smogun 2 would have looked like. If hukkokudo got their hands on the original mold then I will shit my pants.
wow. all this time I thought Bemon was hhis own character? who was the first to find out it was an old character or was it common knowledge?
I wonder how different it's going to look from the bemon we all know and love? As you see you can't really get an idea of how he looks from the chest out and down. But we do know, he's some sort of garbage pile. I also wonder if maybe they dig up a "lost" mold somewhere of the original version that was never produced? It's a mystery. I guess we'll find out when we special order.(I know I'm going for it!)
I had no idea Bemon was old either, I thought he was just the creation of that dude. Looking at that header, it appears as though he has conical arms very much like our friendly neighborhood Bemon. But is that a flaming car sticking out of the end of his arm?
I dont think people talked much about it so not many people realised that Bemon was an old character. Unless you have seen the header card before.
There were posts/discussions on this before and the header was in an old issue of s7. I was pretty sure they had said a toy had never been made of it though....?
Issue 12 of Super7 magazine pretty much explains everything. The BEMON was originally called the Mosugon 2 and nobobdy even seems to have proof it was ever released.
jeez imagine if one of those was found somewhere there are super rare M.U.S.C.L.E. figures that i have seen collectors pay over 900 or 1000 dollars for (yes, the little 1.5" tall pink figures) so i imagine something like that would just blow up
It was talked about a bit here: http://www.skullbrain.org/bb/viewtopic. ... ht=#117678 You can see the bemon on the og smogun in this pic:
They refer to the version they will be doing as a "header card" version, so my bet is that it is another interpretation. -c
Header Card version sounds like from the header of the original Smogun, seriously if this thing looks even remotely like Bemon that dude is going to lose his mind isn't he? didn't he get pissed off about someone doing a painting before?
I sent them images of the original painting I did and he basically told me to cease and desist on reproducing any form of the images. I was just sending them fan art. That's like Marvel telling 7 year old Skippy to stop drawing images of Spiderman. I also heard that Bemon is originally from a cover of the famous monsters of filmland magazine which might have inspired that header art. Still looking for this issue.
considering that the guy who makes bemon is basically making an interpretation of a pre-existing monster ... its kind of fucked that he would be so quick with the cease and desist shit. especially when its lamour and his paintings of bemon are so fucking rad! weird. either way, i am very eager to see what this new sculp is going to look like.
I'll be pretty disappointed if it's just another interpretation, and I wouldn't put it past hukkokudo to rip off bemon and put the vents in the back or something. Maybe they at least got some concept sketches or something from IKB. Anyone have any info on ordering these?
Gotta wonder if he was afraid of what the Hukkodukko folks are in fact doing - cashing in on the coat tails of other companies success. Gargamel has seen Hukkodukko release versions of nearly each and every one of the Zokki kaiju that have come out. I'm not very interested in whether the monster's existed in one form or another previously - Gargamel has at the very least interpreted the characters in manner that has created a very distinct style - not simply act as a reissue company. Coming down on fan art like that is pretty weak though.
Paul...i don't need more things to hunt down seriously though, that is the best link to some seriously amazing art. at least i have something to do today...
