is there a difference between 'hyper hobby' (the one garadama scanned) and just regular 'hobby japan'? i'm guessing they are totally different magazines but i figured i'd ask cause an anime store near me stocks hobby japan, but not hyper hobby.

They are different magazines. In my experience, Hobby Japan is much more readily available outside of Japan.

 

Hobby Japan is very Gundam focussed, Hyper Hobby is VERY Kamen Rider (and kaiju) focussed.
