I can't remember whether this topic was already brought up here or on another list I belong to - but inquiring minds want to know. I'll lead off - I sold a 45 to Henry Rollins - he was totally cool - we corresponded for a couple of weeks following that. I even had the balls to ask him how much he benches (surprisingly it wasn't out of this world but his squat and deadlift certainly are) I bought some records from Howie Pyro of many, many bands including D Generation and Danzig. Cool guy who also collects kaiju like the Glen-ster. I contacted Nicole Panter, manager of the Germs who is interviewed in the Decline - she was selling a fully autographed Germs album - we wound up emailing back and forth for many months - cool lady. I sold a 45 to a guy who wanted to use the artwork for a book he was writing about Rick Griffin, the artist - Selling an Alex Chilton record to the son of the guy who took the photograph on the cover of that very record - William Eggleston - was a pretty freaky coincidence - and there have been other people who were in bands that I admire, or followed (guitarist Jim Duckworth, some dude from the Raunch Hands, to name a few). It's fascinating who's on ebay, don't 'cha think? Ok, now it's your turn.
years ago martin atkins (drummer for pigface, murder inc, pil, ect..) was auctioning off his remixing abilities on ebay. the band i was in at the time deceided it would be cool to have so we bid and won. we tracked out everything and sent it off about 2 months later we get a package containing the remix. after the initial listen i was in awe and not the good kind of awe, honestly i was think what the fuck is this. the song has since grown on me and i like it, but that band is no longer around so we have really over priced remix sitting around with no avenue for release. it was pretty cool though cos he drummed on it and at the same time he was auctioning off his remixing talents he was auctioning off his drumming abilitys so we got free drumming out of him
He probably don't remember this but about 5 years ago khanate( a member on this board)sold a Satanic Malfunctions 3rd 7" which I won on the bay. Now All I need is the S.M./SM-70 split 7"!!!
A while ago, I bought an Apocalypse Now script from Joe Haldeman on eBay, which was given to him back in his script writing days. The script is an early draft, very different from what was filmed. I also bought a drink for this guy once and have eternally regretted it: http://flickr.com/photos/7766775@N07/851145603/ http://flickr.com/photos/7766775@N07/851145643/
Frank just bought something from me on eBay (pst, on the way today) does that count? ALSO I bought a picture disc from Canada's own John Mikl Thor (If you're unaware of his work, check it http://www.thorcentral.com/) WOW, that's cool. I'm a big PPG fan, w/all the Kaiju he threw in that show I was pretty sure the guy collected.
A few years ago I interviewed Craig McCracken for an article and we ended up talking about Japanese toys. He said he was a fan of the old kaiju toys and at the time, he was sending photos of them to Trendmasters because they were developing giant monster toys for their Powerpuff Girls line. He wanted to see some of that vintage aesthetic in the final product. The toys were shown off at a subsequent Toy Fair, I don't remember exactly what year, but they were very Bullmark-ish. Unfortunately they were never produced.
