I've always used dvd decrypter. Very straight-forward/easy to use. I think legal action forced the makers to cease distributing it so you just have to search around for it. PM me if you want & I can email it to you, it's very small file size.
Handbrake is awesome, although I can't recall ever having used the windows version. If it works as well as the mac version then it shouldnt disappoint.
you can look around at http://www.afterdawn.com/. lots of information on different programs and even users guides over there. good stuff.
DVD Decrypter is the first and only program I've ever used for this purpose. powerful and simple to use.
i've asked around before but never got a clear answer. i know how to do a DIRECT dvd rip, but how can i just get the movie (no extras or menus) and turn it into a 700mb or 1.2gb .avi (like you see on torrents). someone gave me a program once and after 19hrs of encoding i gave up with it.
Handbrake will do this for you. It can be kind of tricky because you have to guess at what to rip, but it's usually not hard with movies, tv shows on the other hand are sometimes hard to get right.
dvdshrink can make it a 700mb avi? i've got it and all it can seem to do is do a direct rip or turn it into an .iso.
The DivX package has a convertor that turns VOBs into AVIs (encoded with DivX, of course). Having DivX and a DivX-capable DVD player is a wonderful thing.
